Introduction
Nursing researchers face numerous challenges, especially when identifying valid articles that they can reliably trust to reflect the truth. Finding accurate, sensitive and competent studies to use in conducting research not only increases the validity scale but also create an inextricable link between the research and its relevancy in the nursing profession. Using the PICOT question below is a way in which a nursing researcher would discover validity in a study making it easier for them to use in conducting research.
In terms of population, a valid nursing study focuses on addressing a very specific issue in the mentioned group. A valid study will include the most essential of details focusing on matters age, the community-dwelling and the kind of health cohort that the study is focused on exploiting (Paquette, & Ross, 2015). An example would be bariatric adolescents undergoing bypass surgery. In the above example, every aspect of the population has been mentioned including the procedure.
Secondly, a valid intervention from that qualifies a study should be reliable. Reliability in nursing research is measured by the level by which the proposed intervention as a new tool compares to others that are already established. The intervention is valid when the hypothesis creates a relationship with already established materials (Melnyk, & Fineout-Overholt, 2014).
Additionally, a comparison of a valid study on nursing is administered by the kind of role that the study plays concerning other researches. A nursing study is compared to others on whether it adds critical information or criticizes the kind of information that is being revealed. During criticism, a valid nursing study provides evidence with proof of elements that it considers should have been done otherwise.
As an outcome, a valid study should give an outcome that is palatable to the primary members as earlier mentioned in the population part (Ozonoff, & Grandjean, 2020). For example, a research study outcome should mention each member of the team especially considering that nursing is multidisciplinary. Effects on the nurse and the patients should exhaustively be exploited. If the outcome is not exploited in terms of the secondary members then it should be considered not valid as per nursing requirements.
Lastly, a valid nursing study just like its population should be accurate on the timing. A perfect example of a mentioned nursing research time is a preoperative study including six weeks post-recovery. In the mentioned time, the study gives an exact time without a doubt which can be put to test by another researcher. Inaccurate timings are always mentioned in terms of range, for example, two to three months. It gives the new nursing researcher challenges in determining the validity of the information in the study.
Conclusion
In conclusion, a nursing researcher will determine that a study is valid when it has internal consistency, stability, and equivalence. When all the above elements are within a nursing study it becomes predictive which gives the researcher the confidence to use it for further meta-analysis.
