Introduction

Cross-cultural communication is not an easy concept because different people have different ways which they think, understand the idea or communicate with each other. Most people tend to view things from a negative concept rather than from the positive side of it. It would be made more accessible for people from different cultures to think in terms of equality which helps a lot. The reason behind this is because when some people are treated differently just because they are leaders or are from a nationality that is considered high, therefore, such people receive special treatment.

How to Approach the Situation

Since communication is made easier because of thinking from a positive perspective, then seeing the notice on the door of the patient is trying to find out why they have put such a note on the door. I would follow the previous treatment chart to acquire information about the doctor and nurses taking care of him. Due to curiosity to find out why they have put the notice on their door. Viewing it from a positive perspective would be to imagine that a patient is an old person who may only be familiar with the people from his race and culture and cannot in a position to speak any other language fluently. Therefore for proper and secure communication, he needs someone who understands them best. On the other hand, viewing it from an ordinary man's perception would be that the person is being treated especially which results in unequal treatment of the persons practicing in the medical career.

Who Would I Speak to?

First would be to look for the doctors and nurses so that I would be made to understand why the patient was to be treated based on the cultural background of doctors attending to him which is not quite a fair thing to do. After understanding, I would then head the administrator of the hospital based on the reason and explanation give to me to find out why the hospital allows discrimination. This brings difficulty in the doctor-patient relationship because if the patient rung the bell and the doctor or nurse of a similar race is not present would it mean that the patient would lose his life?

Should the Instructions be Honored or Disregarded

Based on the question posed above, the instructions of the patient should be disregarded because a doctor is still a doctor notwithstanding the race, culture or language that they speak. Doctors speak much based on the fact that a patient does not see a serious aspect of their treatment. They are so casual about the treatment which may result to them not responding correctly to treatment, for example, such a limitation as they are receiving treatment. The patients tend to distance themselves with the doctor who is quite frustrating for them (Wurth, Langewitz, Theil & Schuster 2018). Patients most times express harsh treatment based on their race, origin, culture, and language that they speak (Wurth et al. 2018). It is quite tricky to handle a situation where a patient gives the specification of whom they want to treat them because the result would be them suffering a lot since they require medical attention yet give a spec on the doctor to treat them.

Conclusion

To deal with such a situation would mean taking an opportunity to educate both doctors and patients on the issue of cross-cultural communication and telling them how important it is for them to acquire treatment without having to choose the doctor to treat them. This is because the result will be the patient suffering and not the doctor.
