Health facilities need a nursing informaticist to ensure they comply with government regulations in their healthcare provisions. The Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 were passed in line with the Medicare for All initiative to help health providers who take care of patients under the Medicare insurance receive their payments justly (Debra, 2017). A primary concern for providers since the initiative is that most covered patients are no longer willing to pay out of pocket, whereas insurance companies make the process cumbersome. Nurses, physicians, clinicians, and other healthcare providers rely on private and public insurers like the federal Medicare for their revenue, unlike before when they could engage with personal patients and receive payments out of pocket (Dalsing, 2018). Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to discuss the role of a nursing informaticist in ensuring that a health facility complies with MACRA policy.
Healthcare providers should understand that MACRA comes as a better version of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010, which was commonly referred to as Obamacare (Dalsing, 2018). The system was created with the help of thousands of physicians and patients across the United States since they are the primary beneficiaries of the program. Patients desire affordable care, while health workers deserve remuneration for their services. MACRA also comes as a replacement for the Sustainable Growth Rate program by ensuring healthcare providers receive payments for their service quality rather than quantity (Debra, 2017). Also, the program puts the tax payer's money into good use and will reduce the rising cases of diseases through prevention rather than payment for treatment of illnesses as they arise.
Conclusion
Health informaticists will play the role of collecting as much information as possible that validates and ensures that all healthcare provides comply with MACRA. The federal government will also receive healthcare records annually, which the informaticists ought to prepare on behalf of the facility and submit them. As a result, the demand for healthcare Informaticists and Technicians continues to rise between 2014 and 2024 (Dalsing, 2018). Currently, there are 29,000 jobs in the market related to Informatics, and the numbers will increase by 15% in the next five years.
