Introduction
Nurses who specialize in care require skills to manage a good relationship and therapeutic environments when caring for young adults and adolescents in need of special care. Adolescents and young adults are at a higher risk of lifestyle challenges; thus, it is essential to find appropriate interventions to help overcome the risk factors. As a nurse practitioner, I face various problems such as complicated collaborative relationships and patient's psychosocial vulnerabilities in offering care to adolescents and young adults
During my nursing practice, I face difficulty in developing a collaborative relationship with young adults. Often, adolescents present inappropriate behavior when they are faced with stress and pain (Conroy et al., 2017). Some of these patients thus sink into depression and find it challenging to share with nurses their concerns and needs. Therefore, there is difficulty in setting effective trust and communication.
Additionally, adolescents and young adults are greatly exposed to different psychological and physical risks as a result of their psychosocial vulnerability (Daniel et al., 2015). The risk is even higher among those young adults who have chronic illnesses such as cancer. The main reason being that the complexity of their disease causes a burden on their health development.
How to Overcome These Concerns?
I plan to overcome the concern of psychosocial vulnerability through developing early interventions that help moderate health risks. The primary intervention is to offer emotional support and provide awareness on preventive measures (Kim, & White,2018). Also, I will overcome the concern of non-collaborative relationship by building trust. I will build trust in communication be assuring them of confidentiality and remind them that a clinic is a place of no judgment.
Conclusion
In conclusion, my role as nurse utmost important in the process of recovery of a patient. It is important to note that teens are more likely to get worse because of their behaviors; thus, it is vital for nurses to offer effective communication and a guide towards safe behavior. Developing excellent communication skills is essential in providing care to adolescents and young adults.
