The training should also focus on empowering them to show those close to them in the absence of the qualified personnel.

The learning environment for the patients in the hospital and home settings should be favourable in the end. It is easier to teach patients to hand hygiene practices whenever they come to the hospital for any illness as long as they are willing to take part. Further, the training can target the patients at home during home visits by the healthcare personnel. The move will increase the audience for hand hygiene learning.
Nursing staff
This category of learners refers to the qualified nursing staff who have the responsibility to sensitize all on hand hygiene. They are familiar with and have a deeper understanding of the Nursing Code of Ethics, and have practice experience of various nursing concepts in the real world (Ohio, 2018). Their learner characteristics include willingness to learn new skills, possession of fundamental nursing concepts, ability to keep time and arrange for personal studies, and possession of appropriate communication skills that enable them to illustrate concepts to the patients.

At the end of the online training module on hand hygiene and infection control, the nursing staff will state the circumstances at which hand hygiene is necessary and how best to perform it by various groups.

By their nature, nursing staff are busy at the healthcare facilities most of the time. Further, they possess the necessary information concerning various practices hence such training act as refresher courses. Therefore, the online training module made up of lectures; videos can help to pass the relevant hand hygiene information to them, and giving them the chance to plan for their learning whenever they are free.

The learning environment for the nursing staff is internet or electronic learning platform such as websites that can be accessed from any place with access to the internet and at any time. Having agreed on the need for flexibility of the learning time and personal control over learning by the nursing staff, such learning platforms will be ideal. Besides, the methods help realize lower training costs since the physical classes, as well as many trainers, are not required.
