Nutrition is the state of ensuring a meal is well balanced and consumed in the right proportions. This entails proteins, vitamins, starch, iron, and so forth. Nutritional dieting plays a crucial role in ensuring a healthy body (Samsudin et al., 2011). The world is currently is grappling with the need to sensitize people on the importance of healthy meals and dieting. With the emergence of the internet, information sharing has made life a lot easier, and people can easily access nutritional information on meals they can consume to ensure they do not risk lifestyle diseases (Samsudin et al., 2011). This trend has seen many restaurants gone a notch higher in ensuring their meal plans contain nutritional details to aid people in making informed decisions on the kind of meals they consume (Samsudin et al., 2011). Example of such hotels includes; the Fairmont Hotels and McDonald's.
The reason for choosing Fairmont hotel is that it is a worldwide group of hotels, and they have embraced the idea of nutritional dieting for its clientele (Reid, 2006). Fairmont hotels have even introduced customized cuisines for their clientele from gluten-free, raw, and peanut-free, among others, for their different dieters (Reid, 2006). This kind of information is key to helping a client choose what is suitable for them. On the other hand, Mc Donald's menu varies from country to country (Samsudin et al., 2011). However, most of their meals in America are mostly junky. Lunch choice from the two restaurants is as detailed. For the healthy meal plan include grilled cheese sandwich which contains nutritional information as follows; total calories-230, grams of fat-6 grams, grams of saturated fats-1g, trans fat-0 and milligrams of cholesterol-0 (Reid, 2006). On the other hand, the unhealthy meal plan is French fries, grilled red meat and a can of soda which is details as follows; total calories-280, grams of fat-12 grams, grams of saturated fats-3g, Trans fat- 2g and milligrams of cholesterol-1g (Reid, 2006).
Consumption of foods in high calories may lead to weight gain. Also, the consumption of high levels of saturated fats may cause heart diseases. Based on the nutritional information for the two meals, I would advise my colleague to go for the healthy option since it has low calories which will not cause weight gain lowers chances of cancer unlike the one with high grams of fat (Reid, 2006). Posting nutritional content of meals helps consumers make informed decisions on the meals they eat, and it makes them aware of the health benefits and risks as well (Samsudin et al., 2011). Having access to this information will change my selections for restaurants to opt for places that offer healthy meals compared to junk foods.
Conclusion
In a nutshell, nutritional details on meal plans play a crucial role in informing people about what they consume. Restaurants that include these details show that they value their clients. For example, The Fairmont group have on their menus nutritional details for their meals.
