Grass is a supply Chain Company that supplies its products to many countries. Since it’s also a supply company, Grass first receives orders from the customers and feeds them into the company’s system, including the number of goods ordered and the date of delivery. When new rules have been created, the company begins the production in regards, and they have enough components and raw materials. Grass Company has four destinations of production. In Gotzis and Hochst, for instance, which are both in Austria produce the drawer, flap and hinge systems.
Another branch in Germany (in particular Reinheim) manufactures the one production branch and the hinge systems. In Krumlov (Czech Republic) on the other produce the final components for the finished goods. The set-up of the organization shows that the final products go to customers directly or stored in their warehouses in Austria. Grass has a versatile transport system because of the core markets such as furniture and kitchen industries found in Germany.
Even though trade is made globally, their main focus is South Africa, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, USA and Germany. The company uses these locations to transport goods all over the world. The primary transport mode is the use of lorry because most of their products are delivered directly to the clients. Compared to other options, Grass chose this mode of transport because of the road network. The cost of transporting these items is cheap, independent and flexible. The road also gives them the ability to begin from any location, at any time and if they have changed, they do not have fixed ties.
Grass Company is known for delivering in Canada and North America. Mostly the use containership as a mode of transport for their transport for secure transfer to the truck while retaining all the goods inside. The reason why they use this method is that it’s easy to unload from one lorry to another. Grass has a transportation system for express delivery that takes about three weeks if the goods have to be taken to Canada and North America. The express orders usually come when planning is imprecise, or the order has been changed. For various reasons, the unplanned customers’ orders that are large and cost unusual amounts made the company to develop the express delivery.
The research question is methods Grass can use to improve their supply chain to decrease their CO2 emissions and last-minute deliveries. The research method used is qualitative analysis. The findings which aimed to find out about the theme are also connected to the way of delivering the products and how to improve the supply chain. The results of this paper show that the company uses tow ways of producing their goods. In the interview, it is clear that Grass needs to improve from optimum repair and maintenance for better planning. The reason behind this is that the company follows a green strategy that affects the operations, specifically the supply chain department.
The paper shows that Grass Company has various aspects in their supply chain and delivery that need improvement. The production supply chain has straight and transparent processes. However, because of its size, and different product locations, the company is experiencing various challenges, especially for express deliveries. The best recommendation for Grass is that it must think of other alternatives when transporting goods to Europe. As mentioned, the company uses lorry for transportation, but they may also consider using the train. In general, it has a robust supply chain and this has improved their green performance.
