The effect of psychotherapy is that the patients recover earlier and entirely from the depression that was attacking them. Studies have shown that the results of a treatment administered to the patient can be used to determine how fast the patients are going to recover. The study included patients of depression of all ages and the various methods and psychotherapies that they underwent. The studies predicted that there would be a substantial relationship between early response to the treatment and remissions received by the patient. The studies were done over different periods from the time the patient visited the doctor for the services. This paper seeks to look into that relationship and explain what the patients may undergo during the recovery period.
Some of the patients have been found to be responsive to the treatment plan during the early stages of treatment. Those patients recovered quickly to the treatment procedures and had no problem with the psychotherapy. The studies and the results from them gave the doctors hope that the particular method of psychotherapy was a success, and it was definitely on the right track. However, some patients take longer to respond to the treatment programs as spelled out by the psychotherapist (Persons & Thomas, 2018). The psychotherapist, in this case, may start doubting their plan and start asking themselves a lot of questions. However, we also reserve the right to question whether the delayed response to treatment automatically means that the treatment plan is not working. It may not necessarily mean that and any decision made from such findings may be misguided.
Psychotherapy is one treatment that should be centered on the patient completely as the direction of the treatment should be solely guided by the results they get from the patient. Every individual reacts and responds to treatment differently as compared to others. Therefore it is crucial that psychotherapists treat individual cases as such while administering their treatment plans. That is the reason why psychotherapists should be slow to react and act on the treatment plan just after starting the treatment plan. It is not guaranteed that what works for an individual patient might work the same way to another patient and within the same period. The doctor must look thoroughly into the case while sticking to the plan before making rushed decisions.
The patient's reactions and the way they receive the treatment are greatly influenced by their willingness to receive the treatment as dictated and administered by the psychotherapist. Depression is a mental condition, and healing from it has to come from a resolved heart. The patient may have been forced to seek medical intervention, but their mind and heart are not into the plan. The reason behind that is that they are disillusioned and have lost all the hope they had in life. Treating such patients become hard as they will not respond to the treatment as required. The psychotherapist may fault the treatment plan, which, in the real sense, is not the issue but rather the patient.
Studies also suggested that therapeutic relationships greatly influence the time taken by patients to recover. Therapeutic relationships are an essential aspect of the recovery of the patient. Some of the patients may not have a good relationship with their therapists. This is a common event with youth and teen patients who maybe hate their scientists because of the rebellious nature of the age bracket. Besides, some patients also have a terrible relationship with their parents back at home, which, too, may affect their response rates to the therapy sessions. The psychotherapists must build a good relationship with their patients before they embark on the treatment plan. The people around depression, anxiety, and patients of other mental conditions should provide them with an easy time to aid them in response to the treatment.
As observed above, patient mentality and the willingness to regain good health and be in the perfect mental condition is a significant player in the journey to recovery. The psychotherapist needs to educate their patients about the factors that contribute to their early and timely recovery from the diseases (Wucherpfennig et al., 2019). The awareness will help a lot in the treatment process and shaping the patient's mentality to receive treatment. The doctors should also bring awareness to the patients on the factors that prevent their timely recovery. The steps will help in keeping the patients from interacting with the things that will prevent their healing. The above methods help shape the patient's thinking process and be responsive to treatment. Also, an important aspect is the ability to convince the patients the purposes of treatment are efficient and that recovery is possible.
Conclusion
In conclusion, psychotherapy is a delicate subject that needs to be approached with care. The rate of recovery of patients greatly varies from one person to another. Some people begin to respond to treatment earlier, while others are slow to respond to treatment. While the above is true, the slow response should not take to mean that the treatment plan is a fail. Certain factors lead to a delayed reaction to treatment. The factors include the fact that different people respond differently to drugs and therapy, the relationship of the patient with the people around them, including the psychotherapist, the patient's mindset, among other things. It is essential that the issues above are addressed for psychotherapy to produce the wanted results and on-time anticipated by both parties.
