Introduction
For close to a decade, climatic changes have been felt in different parts of the world. Unfortunately, with such changes come disasters, which have continually disturbed humans in the affected area. Such calamities include floods, drought, to mention but a few. These catastrophes have called for emergency management for effective containment (Gaddy & Ryan, 2014). This essay, however, focuses on floods as a severe issue in several parts of the USA. It attempts to draw the findings on the causes as well as the mitigation recommendations.
Findings
The USA has emerged as a severe victim of flooding in most of its regions. For instance, On June 30, 2020, the administrators in St. Croix County in western Wisconsin proclaimed a state of emergency after witnessing major flooding (Wu & Robertson, 2020). According to NWS, the areas affected included Pleasant Valley, Hammond, Glenwood, Emerald, Rush River, Warren, Baldwin, Forest, Springfield. NWS reported that such floods were cited as increased rainfall at statistical figures of 232mm of rain at Emerald, 208.79mm Baldwin, and 208.28mm at Hammond.
In the same month, it was reported that heavy rainfalls caused floods in the coastal areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida, and Alabama, hence attracting a call of emergency. Other distinguished scholars have argued that significant and unfavorable climatic changes, some of which are responsible for the massive floods, occur due to the settlement in vulnerable areas due to the ever-increasing population (Trask, 2015). There exist several other regions affected by floods implying this paper is not conclusive but just a summary. Therefore, it is thought that this issue should be carefully dealt with because it has led to massive destruction of property, but it has and continues to claim lives for both animals and human beings.
Possible Ways of Mitigation
The state departments should consider employing the crowdsourcing technique. Through it, the applicability and adoption of organized solutions are highly enriched (Perlman, 2015). It should be enforced by bodies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Additionally, the improved flood warning systems should be introduced, adjustment of homes and buildings to endure floods, tackling climatic changes, more finance for flood security, effective tree planting, and reinstatement of rivers to their natural courses be considered.
