Introduction
Migration involves the movement of people and goods to new places for settlement. Over the years, people have been migrating to new areas or various reasons. America's population is made up of individuals from varied backgrounds whose presence in America is accounted for migration. This is not the case for Africans, however. The Africans were taken to America as slaves, during the industrialization era to work in the firms and the industries. Over time, they fought for freedom, and their efforts gave way, beginning in 1800. This paper aims to discuss American history between 1835to 1915.
Reconstruction Period
The early years in America, before the 1860s, marked slavery, especially in the southern countries. Slave trade was so rampant and high that even people would be traded. Owning a slave was so much coveted, and this grew in the south, especially in Texas. The northerners, however, did not support this idea of the slave trade and begun fighting against it. It arose contentions with contentions, as the southern whites were not willing to let go of the slaves. Several cases were presented on what slavery was and the grounds of its justice. Most of these efforts bore fruit the early 1860s. The black people were freedom slave trade, and this was the beginning of reconstruction. President Abraham Lincoln is the one who spearheaded this freedom to slaves. Still, the south people had not yet given up on the slaves. The rebuilding saw most of the lack of people incorporate into the activities of the whites.
Some of the significant changes include the freedom of the blacks to vote and engage in politics, which allowed them to have a representation in the politics of the country. They were also allowed to worship and attend school. Land for arming was also given to the blacks, and they gained a considerable level of equality. Initially, the black secreted most of their activities, for example, having schools and churches exclusively or black.
Work, Business and Society in Late 18th Century
Following the freedom and antislavery battles being fought in the north, most of the African Americans begun migrating to the north. By the early 1900, the record of immigrants was hitting six million in. These African Americans were looking for better jobs and better economies where they were being given freedom. This explains the great migration that was taking place at the time. The cities which were mostly occupied these worker immigrants were Chicago, New York, and St. Louis. The immigrant to Chicago was so many that the African Americans formed the majority. Threats on jobs for whites caused riots which saw around 2oo African Americans killed and houses burnt down. Those who migrated to New York encountered a cosmopolitan place with other races like the European and Caribbean immigrants. During this time, artists grew up, ushering in the Harlem renaissance.
Empire and War: Global Expansion and Conflict
America ventured into the trade in the pacific and went interactions by trading with china among other international countries. America also participated in international relations to maintain its commerce routes. Most of the trade was with china and little engagements with Asia. The wars with Spain and the Philippines, America embarked on helping Cuba in its international relations service. Cuba sought freedom from Spain for a long time, having several failed attempts. The United States participated in this international relations to protect its markets. The economy grew so well that America began buying territories like the Guano islands, which were rick or fertilizers used in farming. Due to all these engagements, America looked like an empire, Latin America. The venture of America into the middle east was not for trade. However, most of the activities were in terms of education, humanitarian aid, and science. These activities were being carried out by missionaries who had come to America in the early 1830s.
The Roaring 20s
The early 1920s was marked with confusion and dismay, and the recession was setting in. People were fearing that everything valuable was ending and that modernists were not asking whether their behavior was being approved but rather that their behavior would meet the approval of intellect. Americans entertained the new jazz with much taking o alcohol, and this was adopted mostly in the southern states. There was a battle between the traditionalist and the modernists at the time. One of the cases was the teaching of evolution theory, which was being prohibited.
The New Deal
The year 1929 marked an enormous change in the economy of America. Stock prices dropped drastically, that investors began selling their portfolios. The industry and agriculture went down with an estimate of &10 billion dollars went down on investments. People were optimistic that these would change in 1930 and that the economy would be back to normal. The gap between the poor and the rich increased remarkably. Some policies guided the business world in America include giving personal taxes, easy credit, low corporate, and depressed interstates. Farm families grew, and people were trying to make up the declining consumption. Thus the great depression continued during the 1930s.
WW2
In 1939, world war two broke in Japan, but America was not engaged initially. The bombing of Pearl Harbor triggered the united states to enter into the war. The tensions began with the Japanese and the Chinese, which later spread to the whole world. The Japanese army was powerful that the United States withdrew to isolation entirely as they did not have the workforce and the will to help. The Japanese fought Europe and attacked America so that they disarm America. America joined the war at a prolonged rate, however, because they lacked military power. Later on, the army grew. The Americans developed weapons during their time of Isolation, and thus, their economy boomed once again.
Conclusion
In conclusion, American has been focused on development ever since the time of industrialization. Their focus was to develop economically and to have allies with the international market. This explains the reason why they concentrated in manufacturing at first while the rest of the countries fought. Were it not for the provocation by the Japanese; they would not have joined the war. The conflict between the northern and the southern Americans that arose over slaves as it was a booming business. The freedom of these slaves and their incorporation of the blacks as Americans is an excellent move in history. The period `1865 to 1935 was very interesting following the huge historic developments happening in a continuous series, and marking the current day life.
