Donna dukes narrate how a voice seemed always to remind her to slow down. She, however, could not listen to this urge because many things and responsibilities had to be done. The diagnosis came in the year 2000 after it all started with her seeing the third image of sidelight when driving. This was an unusual experience. She thought that she had developed vision problems.

Donna had an accident while she was a child and had her brain scanned. The doctors had noticed something strange in mind, but no attention was paid because it had no impact at that time. After several workouts and aerobics, Donna started feeling the fingertips getting numb and reddish. Several visits to doctors finally gave her a shocking response. The report from the neurologist showed that she had Multiple sclerosis (Living With MS - An African American Experience | The Donna Dukes Story. 2013).

It is shocking to discover that the disease can affect anybody, even without showing earlier signs. It is always rampant and shared among Caucasian women. Still, recently it has been reported among the African-American women who don't even have any family history of the disease. The story of Donna is a story of passion and a strong woman who is still being depended upon despite her present condition. From the story, one can learn the critical symptoms of the disease, including the reddening of the fingertips, the nerves getting numb, and the feelings she expressed in the novel she read. People living with Multiple Sclerosis need to start therapy immediately and get closer to friends having the same condition, which is a talented support group. Such groups have helped Donna develop her faith and acceptance of the new person the disease has turned her. She hopes to reach out to many people out there with love and teach them that being diagnosed with MS can be fearful, but with courage and hope, life with it is bearable (Living With MS - An African American Experience | The Donna Dukes Story. 2013).

Donna emphasizes the need to have family support. Family presence is essential for the patients of MS as it helps them cope up with the stress it brings about. She is in peace with her family after explaining everything about the disease to her family, which was greatly affected.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the advice that she gives to every individual is the need for them always to have their bodies checked for any sign that could break out in the future. She advises that every person remains educated on various matters regarding their health so that they can make good choices that are informed. Donna clarifies that the symptoms of the disease can vary depending on the stage of development. It is common for the person to experience vision problems due to the brain being affected. The action of the body immune on the nervous system causes numbness and also some parts of the limbs turning red.
