I recently purchased my house and before then I lived in an apartment complex with a vernal pool. Oh My God, every dusk and dawn during the rainy season, the frogs, yes the frogs did have outrageous conversations. It seemed I lived next to a bunch of frogs that did their party every evening pleading for my company. The green leaves from the flower garden were whispering to each other about their Wednesday morning plans reminded my wife Susan, and I would host our long-time college friends. Their visit would feature our celebration of acquiring a new house, hence the adequate preparation to offer the best hospitality. Am expecting two guys Mark and Rio, my college mates who we have not met in a while due to overly busy schedules and today priorities was in action. I was so excited and could not wait to receive my friends. I could tell that my wife felt the same excitement.
Before 7.00am we take a walk along the street about 2 kilometers daily (Godman). It is my routine, so my wife did adapt; exercise improves physical health as well as reduce risks of serious illnesses (Mills). This day was no exception; we did take a walk to ensure our day begins on a higher note. On returning home, we took a shower, and we were ready for our visitors. As we the doorbell rings, I requested John our house manager to let me get it. At the gate is my longtime friend Mark in the company of an exquisite lady whom he introduced as Janice Mark. "Hey buddy, meet my spouse Janice." Buddy, I am now married to a woman blessed with far more intuitive kindness than I. I ushered them in with hugs and immense excitement. In a minute Janice and I were connecting as if we had known each other for decades. After securing a place to park his Ferrari, Mark joins us, and we head to the main house. In the house, my wife Susan did receive us and served us a drink. "This is so kind of you sweetheart, thank you," I said calmly in front of Mark and his wife. Janice did connect very well with Susan, and we were analyzing the current affairs, they were busy reminiscing through a professional wedding album Janice had brought along. "It was a unique exquisite wedding," I could hear my wife Susan comment. After thirty minutes of waiting for my other college mate, Rio rings the doorbell, and I excused myself to get it.
Rio was on a bike; God knows what distance he did cover with it since he lived in a faraway place. I did admire the bike, but I also wondered why he did opt to ride a bike all the way. It seems Rio did sense my worries, but I did relax. He did park, and he said it was a long story. I bet by the time he was putting a fool stop in that sentence I was already growing curious to hear the long story. On getting to the house, everyone was excited to see Rio though Janice and Susan did not recognize him.
"Thank you for the accommodation, you all make me feel in a haven," Rio said. In unison, the group welcomed Rio in the house. Immediately, Susan served him wine, and Rio in a whisper requested Susan for fresh juice one could tell from the movement of his lips. That was unusual as Rio was the kind of guy who has tasted almost all the drinks on planet earth. Rio was this guy from a wealthy family who had everything at his disposal. Consequently, he would do all types of drinks irrespective of the price besides chain smoking. He was a ruthless person who would walk into a stall and purchase goods only to dispose of them citing fatigue to ferry them to his house, though he would use his vehicle. To him, the world had nothing to worry him. There is no day that thoughts would cross his mind to visit children's home and donate the shopping luggage and maybe he would garner blessings from heaven.
Rio sipped his fresh juice as I introduced my wife Susan and Mark did introduce his wife, Janice. Rio was excited to meet the two ladies. In response, he did say he wanted to tell us something. In silence, he started. "I have been leading a lavish lifestyle, I did not care about anything, one day a friend of mine Francis did visit and requested me out for a cup of coffee, and I did not hesitate." He stopped for a while to blow his nose. When he fumbled with the tissue, I held it in place, and he blew weakly into it. I naturally squeezed it lightly against his nostrils then pulled it off as a mother does to a child in a car seat. He got a little shy, but I responded with an okay look that gave him comfort; he was almost pissed off. Rio confirmed to us that his friend had a concern that he was behaving unlawful and faced accusations of raping two school girls. "They did jail me for three years thank God to my lawyer who did see me through the case." Everyone mouths agape in astonishment and the ladies growing so emotional.
"I have been to rehabilitation for some time now until last year, and this is what I have become." Rio had grown weak, and I was anxious to listen to the reasons for that. "I have learned to be humble, I sold all the cars and did purchase one recently which I rarely use." "The mountain bike that I used gives me comfort and sparks my inner excitement." Adding insult to injury, a diagnosis with a brain tumor did follow, and the doctors did succeed removing it via surgery." "At some point, I did marry an elegant, gorgeous woman who bore me a beautiful daughter; however I lost her as she could not keep up with my traits besides promising her that I would change until I did not, she left for good." "Pretty, my cute little daughter also left with the mother; she was my world, and I have not heard from them since." From the expression, Rio was in pain. "Currently, I am a patient guy, humble and learning to embrace that which works for me, leaving that which does not." "I have been learning to live each day at a time, enjoy the gift of life and also serve as well as appreciate others." The ladies were too empathetic, and Susan passed Rio a glass of water.
Mark, on the other hand, had a story to tell too. "Sorry for that buddy, its okay all is well," Mark said to Rio as he hugged him. Mark is a litigator, the best I have known. "You see this pretty lady here," Mark said reaching for Janice's hand to rise. She did save from joining the world of bachelors. "One day as I was walking home from work, I decided to join the volleyball players at the park, it was awesome, and after some time a lady joined me." "Perhaps she thought I am one of the fans, so she said hey, I responded, and a conversation ensued." Truly Janice was kind. "Hey, I am Janice, I work at the hospital; as such it was only a breather I will not stay any longer." I thought that is so genuine and confident of her as Mark continued, "I am Mark the litigator, a pleasure to meet you."
Janine invited me to the hospital so I could see how she works and I agreed a situation I cannot explain how it happened up-to-today." "Immediately, I got up, so we drove in her car to the hospital. She said, 'hey scrub down, put on a mask, and get into a gown.' The next thing is I was right next to her at the operating table. There was this patient who was naked from the waist down. She was undergoing a cesarean section. Mark lifted a finger and spun it around. "I started feeling like fainting. I was so tense, and the nurse next to me said, "What's the matter, doctor?" I responded, "Kindly get me from this place!" We all laughed, and Rio laughed too, as hard as he could in his weakness. Apparently, this was the first time Rio did beamlike this, I thought that he could nearly faint from listening to someone's experience and now he could endure his own.
"I had to go back to the hospital to look for Janice, after whom we became friends, and I married her, and here she is with me." And the Ferrari we drove in, is our combined efforts, I am proud of Janice." 'I am proud of you too, Mark." Everyone did glow on hearing that narration from Mark.
Mark sat as Susan directed the chef to serve the fruits after which they brought food. After everyone had eaten, we drove to the lakeside connecting with nature. Its vivid how diverse people are, understanding our temperaments helps us to know who we are. It translates to having a realistic perception of the self hence devising strategies to cope with others in the society. Consequently, our diversity should not interfere with the moral values whatsoever. That was the opening day of my new house.
