Several nursing journals and articles have been published concerning after surgical care methods. The surgical operations include but not limited to abdominal surgeries. The conventional care method that studies have focused on includes chewing of gums after surgical procedures. Li et al. (2013) researched a sample space of 1374 patients concerning the administration of chewing gums as a method of hastening surgical treatments. Using the cumulative meta-analysis, the researchers realised that patients healed very fast, unlike the ones that did not use the chewing gum (Fitzgerald et al., 2009). Matros et al. (2006) and Quah et al. (2006) postulated an in-depth analysis of a randomised 66 patients who undertook open colectomy. They were designed in three groups such that the ones who chewed gums were 22 patients. Using the log-rank test, the three groups were critically, and the researchers concluded that patients who undertook gum chewing recovered within the shortest time, unlike the other two groups. Mansour et al. (2016) researched and published their findings on gum chewing as a method of hasting surgical cesarean using sample space of 40 group and controlled group of 40 patients. The women were given specific duration after cesarean to chew gum surgery. Using the post-operative section sheet and structured interviewing schedule, the researchers analysed and concluded that there were no significant differences between the groups studied. Asao et al. (2002) realised that 19 patients (9 patients controlled experiment) realised that ten patients who chewed gum after postoperative ileus, recovered faster than the controlled ones.

Conclusion

The conclusion is that there are significant hasten to heal patients that chew gums after a surgical operation. This is because the various medical researchers have done the quantitative and qualitative analysis to demonstrate that the approach has been a success to most patients.
