A career is what one decides to take as an occupation in his lifetime. It is where one will be spending most of his or her life and a means of earning a living. Many factors go into selecting a career which will vary from one individual to the other. There are those who may have their reasons for change along the line, and they will decide to go for something different. The factors determining ones career choice range from its cost, one capability to the availability of the training facilities. This paper will be about the career plan that the writer would like to pursue, the preparations and how he would want to go about it.
The first step will be selecting the list of careers to take which will imply starting exploration. There will be some factors that will need considering to this end. The individual will list each one of them and its requirements to compare with what is at his disposal. It needs to start from one's likes and capabilities concerning what the career itself will entail (Shatkin, 2011). There are situations where one may want to pursue a job that is beyond one's abilities. This step should also involve researching the people, friends and relatives and any other sources that can come in handy. There are situations where people think that they know themselves but will be wrong unless they do it with some professional guidance. The candidate prepares an exhaustive list to present to the ones who are concerned and have been living with the individual to address his needs and capabilities. There are also situations where one can still be prepared and be in a position to go for what he wants. All this will depend on his goals that should align with those of the careers in question.
The next step is conducting informational interviews with the parties identified for each one of the career selected. It is the step that will aid in the elimination of the ones that do not carry so much weight. The ones left will have to be assessed much further possibly with professional assistance. At this juncture, one can go out to meet the ones who are already in the given fields. Dunning (2010) argues out that they will provide information on their various experiences. It will also be a moment to get a picture of the reality on the ground and time to reflect on one's choices. Whatever one gets on the field will either make him rethink his choices or will compel him to go for the selected careers. This step will culminate with the selection of the ones that the person will take to the next level.
It is now time to pick the career that will give one satisfaction based on the information that he has gathered. One may have been looking for a job that involves travelling at after the previous steps he realized that what he selected is not about this. Some people would like a career through which they can also get time to attend to their activities and find they are going to get the same. There are still those who are after the most high-paying careers but one they visit the ground they may understand what is against their expectations (Tieger & Barron, 2018). The previous step may have shown the ones who are after creativity that this could be a career that does not present such an opportunity. The end of this step will signify with settling with the job that he will pursue. It is now time for the career plan development stage.
Different personality types help to determine which careers will be suitable for any given individual. For the best results, most career assistants will start by establishing one's traits and then advice according to what is likely to be the areas where one will excel. Taking Holland's personality types then one can be given a grouping after taking some simple online tests for this purpose. At the end of it, six types are defined by this categorization which is realists, investigative, artistic and social (Dunning, 2010). The others are enterprising and conventional where each one of them had descriptions for the type of individual that one is dealing with. The individual that is under observation was found to be social. He exhibited liking to deal with people as opposed to some of the others like investigative which had an affinity for solving math and science problems and realistic for working with animals. The social person would want to assist people in achieving their personal goals or make their lives have more meaning or to be more manageable. Therefore they are likely to be good at teaching, giving first aid and nursing. According to Shatkin (2011), they are also likely to avoid using equipment, machines and tools or animals in realizing their objectives. They see themselves as friendly, helpful and trustworthy because they value teaching, giving information or nursing. Since the individual in question is social, he would like to pursue a career that involves dealing with people in their fitness, as a personal trainer or sports medicine.
The career of choice is in the field of fitness training which is extensive and would need narrowing down. There are different types of trainers depending on the results that are required. There are some that would go for specific sports, general work or narrow down to people for health issues. If one should decide to go for a sporting activity, it may take the form of a trainer in athletics, football, netball or many others of the format (Floyd & Allen, 2009). He will then need to know what it takes for one to succeed in the given sporting activities. Some specific parts of the body would need to be worked on for the person to excel. The training for someone who will be taking part in long-distance athletics will be different from the one for someone who would like to go for spring. The one for a weightlifter would be different as compared to the one for the one who will be expected to play football in other field sports. There are also trainers who are employed by institutions to keep the students and the other staff on a fitness program. There may be different requirements for them depending on the policies set forth by the institution's management. It is common for some institutions to have guidance from the education department on the syllabi to follow depending on the grade or level of education for the participants. There are some who will be employed by fitness centers where they will have a program for individual participants attending the sessions on the facility. This means that they may be allocated a group of people to take through some sessions on an agreed schedule that will depend on their goals. Goodman (2014) observes that it is also in the same respect that there will be others who may have some medical condition and have some prescriptions from their physician on the form of exercise required for them. It is to this end that one would find some that want to lose weight for a healthy living especially now that most of the citizens are obese. Lastly one can have individual clients who will be visited at their workplaces or homes for the program selected.
Having agreed on the form of trainer that one would want to become it will now be time to know the educational requirements that will go with it. Although it may not be mandatory for getting some certification is recommended. Some institutions and clients will be confident if they are dealing with some who had the necessary credentials. That means without some education one's field will be narrow, and he or she will not have an opportunity to handle, the training in a professional manner (Kenworthy & Rodrigues, 2008). This will affect the fees that one is going to be charging the clients or the salary that one is likely to be offered. Establishments that have stringent requirements may shy away from dealing with someone without the necessary proven qualifications from accredited institutions. Before one proceeds to an institution that will offer the accreditation, he will need the primary education that goes with understanding the language of instruction. At the same time, he will need to have some aptitude to undemanding how the body works and its science.
It is prudent to know the form of items that will be taught to those aspiring to be personal trainers. They will be taught how the body anatomy and its physiology relate when it comes to training and assesses the needs of individual client's needs. The objective of such a program will be to avoid causing injury to that is related to practice, coming up with customized fitness programs for different clients and syllabi if one is to teach other incoming fitness students (Dunning, 2010). Depending on the work level that one is going to fit in then some further skills will be required. It is because of other dynamics impact on the training as a business entity. Therefore it may call for an undemanding of it as a business in the form of the factors required for its sustainability. Hence one will need to have basic business fundamentals, marketing, and finance and managing bills which will be part of the fitness class program. The Institute for Career and Research (2013) notes that there may need to attain separate certifications like the one for CPR and first aid which are offered by other organizations operating independently. Beyond these basic requirements, one may also specialise by taking instructor-level training courses in areas such as fitness, aerobics, spin and cycling. Besides, one can also opt for yoga, Pilates and barre.
It is mandatory for the ones seeking to work as personal trainers to get certifications before getting engaged with clients on a one to one basis. Some centers and job descriptions may not need any form of certifications, but it is essential for the ones who want to be increasing their level of marketability. Establishments that value their reputation in the market will give preference to the ones certified as compared to the ones with none at all (Linkul, 2011). Certifications may involve receiving sitting for examinations that require both written and practical parts. While most of the certifications do not have stringent requirements when it comes to one's education level interested candidates will need primary education to understand most of the concept that will be addressed. Some of these may have to do with the human physiology, exercises and fitness and safety assessments for one to be awarded the certification. The credential that one gets in different other fields that are related to fitness will not only enhance ones background in the area but will increase the chances of making it in the industry. Some of the certification agencies are the National Academy of Sports Medicine which goes beyond the usual certifications. They deal with nutrition, conditioning, weight loss and youth exercises amnion many other programs. The more the authorizations that are possessed by an individual, the more fortified his resume becomes and hence the higher the chances of being viewed as more qualified than the other candidates.
Conclusion
There are several personal training organizations in the industry, and the choice for any given one will depend on its popularity, acceptance and its cost. The basic requirement that one would need to be enrolled in most of them will be having attained the legal eighteen-year-old age and completed a high school education or its equivalent. The prospective candidates will need to have a CPR or AED as a prerequisite and a government-issued ID for most of them (Floyd & Allen, 2009). The CPR and AED (automatic external defibrillator) are necessary certifications that are issued through the local community education programs or the Red Cross. It will be important to have a comparison of the top certification programs to decide which one will be most suitable for one's needs. Some of the most popular certifications are the American Council of Exercise (ACE), th...
