Introduction
Be Your Best Self (BYBS) program is a program that allows only the Distinguished Young Women who participate in encouraging and reaching out to young people nationwide. Young people need to be strengthened so that they can commit being their best selves in many areas, for instance, in academics, character, social, civic, morality, and physical fitness participation (Hostetter, 2010). The BYBS message is embraced to empower young people with tools that are valuable in facing different challenges of negative peer pressure. From the personal experiences of the participants of the Distinguished Young Women program, they deliver messages that are helpful since they emphasize the essentials of striving to reach young people and setting up the goals. The five essential elements of the Be Your Best Self program include being involved, healthy, studious, responsible, and ambitious.
BYBS is promoted by Abraham Lincoln's quote, which insists young people on trying their best on everything that they do and never gives up (Hostetter, 2010). The program also states that if people do not show any effort towards their goals, then they may not be able to realize the potential they have. To be your best self, a person requires perseverance, determination, and the ability to know that one can be able anything that they put in their mind. One of the elements of BYBS is being healthy. This means that young people must be physically fit and be free from drugs. Eating healthy foods establishes excellent health for a person. Eating gives a person the daily energy of being able to stay focused in school and any other activity. Healthy eating habits monitors what is essential for the body. The program also helps people to stand along with the temptation of consuming drugs and alcohol. This is because drugs destroy the brain, and sometimes it ends with fatality. Therefore, the bodies should be respected by eating healthy food and living a life free from drugs.
BYBS promotes the element of being involved that entails community services. This shows that a person is thinking about others before thinking of themselves and always wanting the best of their community. Serving others opens up the eyes of a person and focus to see other people's needs in different ways. Traveling and volunteering help a person to learn what they do not know, and they take for granted.
Education is another essential element of being your best self. Knowledge expands people's imaginations and opens up the mind to new different ways of thinking (Hostetter, 2010). Many people take education for granted, but being in school and working hard makes a person successful in class. Being in class requires a person to ask more questions and doing homework. The attitude of a person towards school prepares them for future education. Even though schooling might be strict at times, it should be valued.
BYBS encourages young people to be ambitious and responsible. This means that they should be able to set up their goals and achieve them. Being responsible involves people to live by ethical principles and morals (Guo, 2019). This means that they should not give up on what they want and be careful and ready for consequences of what they do. Ethical principles should guide the morals of every young person by doing what is right and expected by the community. Another factor that shows a person is responsible is knowing who they are hanging out with.
Conclusion
In conclusion, these goals of being healthy, serving the community, doing well in school, being ambitious can all be accomplished if a person is responsible. For example, people should be able to manage their time well by prioritizing what is essential, leaving behind what is not necessary. There are many unfortunate situations and temptations that many young people can fall into if they are not aware of their surroundings. Therefore, they should be guided to surround themselves with good people and peers who do not take drugs. Responsibility is a hard task, but it assists a person in being oneself.
