Introduction
Currently, as Godin observes the marketing culture has changed and many organizations have opted to creating tribes to advance their businesses to a higher level. As a company or brand, it is very important to think of yourself as a tribe or a community (Penn Law, 2018). Nowadays people are no longer interested in just buying a product, but rather they want to purchase a product they trust. Buyers want to connect and feel part of something greater (Grama, 2019). Godin, being an entrepreneur, has observed the shift in the marketing strategies where organizations identify something in the business or society that they dislike and decide to alter it. The companies creates a culture that elevates the change from the inside out and they dedicate themselves to it.
I agree with Godin's suggestions about ways that can make a company a thing to look up to, follow, as well as purchase from. These are the approaches to adopt to enable a company shape its business to create a community of a remarkable momentum (TED, 2009). Among the suggestions he gives is challenging the status quo, as he addresses what drives people. He asserts that people try to find something that they are uncomfortable with and try to change it (Lang, 2019). Additionally, another approach to building a tribe is creating a culture. Godin observes that it is only a tribe that can help change our globe and attract many people because of the desire to connect. Building a culture enhances the brands interaction with people. Lastly there is need to strongly commit to your course (ELBeavers, 2010). Godin encourages companies to be the change, and change is made by annoying the existing businesses, connecting to people and leading others. Godin uses excellent examples to make his listeners understand the points he is trying to communicate. Each example he use for every particular approach is well aligned to the approach.
Godin's talk is very instrumental to marketers and leaders. As leaders, we observe something that is undesirable in the community and strive to change it. Change requires that ideas are shared with like-minded people, who connect to the idea and sell it to others (ELBeavers, 2010). The three methods of spreading ideas are the factory, television and tribes models. The internet provides a good platform for scattered tribes around the world to connect. I agree with Godin that you do not need everyone, but just a small group of people with the same vision as yours to start. To attract more people, we need to share narratives that people want to hear and find desperate tribes and connect them together (TED, 2009). Providing leadership to these groups of people develops charisma in the one leading.
