Introduction
Different plants and animals depend on others to keep the natural surroundings in a balanced state. Human beings, for instance, depend on plants and animals for food, shelter, clothes, medicine, and safety. The ecological balance on earth is determined by how best human beings preserve biodiversity. Conservation of biodiversity is critical for maintaining the environment and sustaining the life of the planet. The richness of biodiversity helps in maintaining the ecological system. The survival of living beings on earth solely depends on the conservation of biodiversity. Hence, it is essential for every human being to ensure that he/she contributes to preserving biodiversity.
Earth is a beautiful planet with multiple natural phenomena. It comprises natural resources like rivers, valleys, lakes, oceans, different species of plants and animals, and many others. Human beings have, however, spoilt the surroundings to a great extent. Therefore, there are various reasons why we should preserve biodiversity. First, it provides the process of the food chain. Different animal and plant species serve as a source of food for others. The best way to ensure the availability of food for other animals is to preserve biodiversity. More so. The decline of a variety of animals and plants would mean that nutritional needs for human beings would be reduced. Therefore, to avoid nutritional deficiency, human beings should always preserve biodiversity. Third, maintenance of the environment ensures that human beings and other animals have clean air to breathe. Plants and trees have a high capability of purifying the air and keep the atmosphere tidy. The damage of natural forests would automatically make the earth inhabitable place to live.
Many conservationists have failed to achieve much in saving the species under threat. The locations or habitats that accommodate most of the species are relatively minimal. According to Myers, Norman, et al., approximately 44% of all species of vascular plants and 35% of vertebra groups are live in only 25 hotspots, which comprise 1.4% of the earth's land surface. If such land surfaces are interfered with, then, these species can either die or suffer. Therefore, there is a need to ensure that biodiversity hotspots are preserved. There is a need to maintain parks and manage them effectively because of their importance to animals and plants as well as human beings. There is a need to forego profits that emanate from damaging the natural parks so that we can protect plants and animals live because they are critical art of the ecosystem.
For many years, governments have put a lot of effort into protecting wildlife and forests (Conniff, 1). Therefore, every person needs to support this move and ensure more land is put into use. According to Wilson, those who have dedicated to preserving the forests have not achieved much due to the multiple challenges that they have faced so far. Human activities have led to continued extinction of species. More than half of the species have already been eliminated. Therefore, the only way to ensure there is no adverse climate change is to ensure that biodiversity is preserved. A lot of damage has already been done, which can harm both human and animal lives. It is worth noting that human beings have adequate human resources and resources which they can utilize to reverse the situation and save the natural forests but fail to use them.
Even though the already extinct species cannot be reserved, it is possible to protect the available species by ensuring that all measures to preserve biodiversity are undertaken. Conservation and preservation of biodiversity are of utmost importance. Every person must, therefore, make sure that biodiversity is protected to avoid declination of the ecosystem. A culture that encourages respect and wildlife's stewardship is preferable to a culture that does not take their role seriously regarding the preservation of biodiversity.
