Introduction
The United States energy policy seeks to improve energy sustainability and at the same time positively contribute to the protection of the environment amidst the climate change which is causing global panic due to the rising temperatures, increase in rains and rising sea levels. The United States energy policy goal is to achieve energy security with an affordable, secure, and adequate supply of energy for the nation. The United States is aware that energy is the lifeline of the country as an industrialized country. The primary goals and secondary goals are aimed towards improving the United States energy efficiency and sustainability (Geri & McNabb, 2016). This essay will explore the primary and the secondary goals considered in the United States energy policy creation and their significance.
Primary Goals of the Energy Policy
Energy Independence
Energy independence is the United States of America primary energy policy goal which is emphasized due to the importance of energy in the sustainability of the national economy. Currently, the United States relies on its fossil fuel energy sources from other countries some of which are hostile against the United States. As such, over-reliance on other nations endangers the nation economic sustainability due to the changes in fuel prices which is a significant cause of economic uncertainty (Geri & McNabb, 2016). Overreliance on other countries that are unstable and also a substantial threat to the peace and freedoms enjoyed by the American people.
Energy Security
Energy is a significant commodity in a country and the economy as a whole. Most activities in building the nation as well as facilitating security require energy. However, the United States high reliance on outside energy resources poses a significant threat to the country energy resources (Geri & McNabb, 2016). The nation can be held for ransom by the energy suppliers by increasing crude oil prices which can lead to economic disruption which could have a significant impact on the country industries and domestic activities that require energy.
Greenhouse Gas Reduction
Global warming poses a significant threat to the most industrialized country in the world due to the use of fossil fuels which emit carbon that is responsible for climate change which threatens not only the sustainability of economic activities but also the quality of life in the planet (Geri & McNabb, 2016). Reducing greenhouse gases emission is a goal in the United States energy policy to ensure that future sources of energy are clean and sustainable.
Secondary Goals of the Energy Policy
Economic Growth
Economic growth is an important energy policy goal which establishes the direction of the policies determining the direction the United States takes regarding developing future energy efficiency and sustainability. Economic growth plays a significant role in the stability and pride of the United States (Geri & McNabb, 2016). Therefore, the energy policies should ensure economic sustainability and growth are vital considerations in the future energy developments which ensures that the economy continues to grow. The future energy considerations should be sufficient for all the national economic needs.
Technical Feasibility
The development of clean energy should take into consideration the technical feasibility of the future sources of energy to ensure that the cost is within the available resources. Technical feasibility is the measure of technical requirements to develop future United States energy resources (Geri & McNabb, 2016). The technical knowledge and resources available should be considered in the future of energy policy development.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the primary goals for energy policy considerations seek to ensure energy independence, energy security, and reduction of greenhouse effect while the secondary goals aim to ensure economic growth and technical feasibility factors are factored in during the development of the United States energy policy.
