Introduction
Competing needs must line up with the strategic policies addressed. Also, the nurses may provide workforce such as the nurses tend to work on a 12-hour shift and are many, but the hospital resources may not be able to cater to the patients and also improve the policies put in place. The strategic positions put in place tend to favor the patients more than the health workers (Roncarolo et al., 2017). Thus, there should be measures established to ensure that each need addresses both interests that include the health workers and also patients.
Specific Competing Needs That Impact the National Healthcare Issue/Stressor
Nurses can get overloaded with hospital work that tends to aim at delivering holistic care to the patients, but there is a shortage of nursing staff members (Baumgardner, 2018). Thus, the policy cannot get implemented effectively. The nurses need to provide quality and holistic medical care to the patients. Nurses are known to go beyond medical care for the sake of the patient (Baumgardner, 2018). It leads to the nurses extending their working hours to ensure the patient's life sustained. The use of new enhanced technological medical equipment to improve the patient's life also seems to play a significant role in doing work for the nurses harder (Jordan et al., 2016). It is because most of the nurses have not undergone training to teach them how to use the tools.
Impacts and How Policies Address the Competing Needs
When the hospital policies overwork nurses, it leads to delivering of inadequate medical care to the patients. Therefore, the desired rationale and medical outcomes of the patients cannot be achieved (Wani et al., 2018). Before a policy gets implemented and developed, stakeholders should be engaged to ensure that the various interests get identified, and this will ensure that the policies created or implemented confirm the needs of the nurses and patients are catered for evenly.
Explanation
When a new policy develops or implemented, the nurses should be actively involved and also work all rounds to deliver quality medical services. Also, considerable consultations conducted, and also teamwork encouraged. It will ensure that the policies invented to meet the needs of the nurses and also the patients and that this type of relationship is beneficial.
