The first article on "The Syrian Humanitarian Disaster: Understanding Perceptions and Aspirations in Jordan, Lebanon, and Turkey" by Dawn Chatty stipulates in agony displaced people undergo in refugee countries. From my perspective, at first Syria was a safe state where the neighboring countries could seek refuge, perhaps, it led to the establishment of a special Refuge Code in 1857 where it addresses the needs of these refugees by ensuring that they settle successfully in Ottoman Empire. According to Dawn Chatty (2017), the greater Syria encouraged integration and unity among the cosmopolitan communities in the late Ottoman Empire. However, hell broke loose in 2011 when Syria disintegrated leading to extreme violence leading to migration of people and refugees in the neighboring countries; Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan.

Additionally, the experiences the Syrians had in the neighboring countries makes them think of still having a chance to go back home, and they feel temporarily displaced waiting for any granted opportunity to return home. In Lebanon for instance, Syrians face social discrimination and are associated with criminality. Despite being skillful craftsmen, Syrians were paid low wages and worked in fear of being arrested for the do not have work permits. Communication and language barriers were other challenges facing the displaced individuals.

In the second article "A Crisis of Anxiety Among Aid Workers" by Rosalie Hughes, is more concerned with the state of aid workers and the dangers they are involved while in the field. I presume that listening to the stories of displaced people results in trauma and stress to the aid worker. Despite their objective being to relieve the displaced people from fear and suffering, they end up suffering ten times. The aid worker is at risk of being raped or harmed in the field, and the organization is not taking equal measures to solve the situation. For instance, there is a colleague who is currently struggling with severe anxiety as well as insomnia due to the exposure of distress and mental effect of listening to people's stories as stated by Rosalie Hunges (2015). Many aid workers are working miles away from their homes; thus they miss their families resulting in homesickness.

Conclusion

To sum it up, organizations should implement counseling to its aid works before and after the job. Furthermore, they need to follow up and more funding to sustain themselves in the field. On the other hand, policies set up need to be taken seriously to avoid social discrimination of the displaced and the refugees.
