The patient's current dosage is Amoxicillin 7 mlX2 for 10 days. The medication works by preventing the growth of bacteria and eventually killing them and eradicating the infection. The dosage given for 10 days is appropriate for the patient. The dosage is to be taken for 10 days even if the symptoms subside. Failure to complete the dosage could lead to an adverse health condition. If not adequately treated, strep could lead to heart problems (van Driel, De Sutter, Habraken, Thorning & Christiaens, 2016).

What is the mechanism of action and reason that this was prescribed for this patient?

Amoxicillin in its bactericidal form fights against the susceptible bacteria when they are actively manipulating. It acts by inhibiting the cell wall biosynthesis that prompts the death of the bacteria. The resistance of amoxicillin is facilitating firmly through enzyme referred to as beta-lactamases that split the beta-lactam ring of amoxicillin, causing it inactive (Sfeir et al., 2013).

The side effects of Amoxicillin are common and vary from one person to another depending on how their bodies respond to the medication. According to van Driel, et al. (2016), some of the side effects experienced when taking Amoxicillin include vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, headache, stomach pain, and rashes.
