Early childhood is the pivot element in developing a child's academic career. It is at this educational level where the teacher is expected to explore the students' real life hobbies and desires to merge with their academic work. When this is examined, the teacher can engage a child in a captivating environment that drives them to want to learn more.
From the first part of the video, we can see the teacher engaging the child through his interested object "his bicycle." The bicycle cycling presented a real-world problem that draws the child to want to learn more about it. The driving force on the boy makes the teacher for challenging the boy to bring out through the picture on the mechanism that causes the bicycle move. The engagement enabled the student to explore and discuss his findings that he gains through imagination.
From the videos above, we see the teacher assessing the child's knowledge by engaging him in a discussion that makes him explain the gear mechanism created by the paddle and the chain. We can see the student relating the experience of riding his bicycle and the actual mechanism that makes the bicycle move. From that, the teacher can ascertain the child's know-how on the actions that the bike operates on to run.
The teacher has employed the art of differentiation in the learning process by using an existing item. This makes the student to get challenged on applying his understanding to the actual thing. The bicycle outside helps the student to relate his presentation to the exact situation as seen in his second drawing from the third video. The student can correct mistakes which can be seen in the relocation of the chain attachment in the rear wheel. The process enables the student to identify and correct his errors.
The learning theories used by the teacher acknowledges of both cognitive and constructive approach to learning. This is outlined by considering in the instance where the teacher engages the child in identifying the essential elements that make the bicycle move. The child is challenged to demonstrate how peddling and the movement of the chain create motion to the bicycle. By making the child describe it, the constructive element of the child is brought out
From the assessment of the given videos, we can appreciate the use of both Reggio Emilia and Play-based model of learning. The teacher can engage the boy in the play-based model by encouraging him to draw the parts of his bicycle. This makes the boy enjoy learning more about his bike. The experienced brought about by drawing and identifying the functions of the bicycles elements prove to be well engaging with the child.
The experienced brought by this kind of learning has excellent values in the child's learning development. An interactive form of education means that the child can internalize the lessons targeted by the teacher. This is due to its play and experimental nature which is the fundamental instincts that occupy the child life at their early childhood stage.
