The research proposal with the thesis the use of condoms is the best way of preventing HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) is a qualitative research. This is because it applies the naturalistic approach that aims at phenomena understanding in the setting of the specific context which is the HIV prevention of the African American Women. In this case, the setting of the real world, which is in concern of the Africa American women's interest, is not manipulated. This research proposal on condom use does not make use of findings produced that are gotten by statistical procedures means or any other quantification means. The research rather makes use of the settings of the real world; this is evident by the researcher lacking a descriptive figure in regards to the African American women who are victims to STI diseases since they do not use protection such as condoms while engaging in sex.
While conducting the research, the observation research method used is non-participant. This is because the researcher makes the observation of the participants' behavior. In addition to this, the survey design applied in the study is a one-shot survey, which is the less complex at the same time less informative. This is because the data is retrieved from a given sample at a given time, therefore, less informative since it does not offer a comparative finding in regards to a group or a sample (Golafshani, 2003). As a result, it is describable that one case in the sample is tested by stating the phrases like "many African American women".
The research uses reliability as a way to evaluate the research. In the study, there is application and conducting of many pieces of research in the testing of the hypotheses to evaluate the condom use effectiveness in the HIV and other STI's prevention. The investigator also makes use of triangulation in the research proposal which strengthens researched by combining methods. The application of the statement "Numerous research" shows the many different kinds of data or techniques, comprising the qualitative approach. The reliable data from the research leads to the findings thus facilitate the tested hypothesis, making it valid. Their findings are that condoms have a low rate of failure and have a higher effectiveness level for distinct forms intercourse, comprising of anal and oral sex. The investigator of the proposal is concerned with the study design with the application of the validity and reliability of data.
More defensive and credible results are a product of the trustworthiness or validity which is tested which causes generalization of concepts (Research methods: Design of investigations, 2004). As a result, the research quality is associated with the result generalization, therefore, maximizing and adding the research validity. In this research proposal, the generalization made is that increment in the appropriate condom use can be a significant phase of HIV reduction level amidst the African American women. In addition to this, the other hypothesis tested and generalized is that the African America women have more than five-lifetime sexual partners, which necessitates the importance of condom use a measure to prevent HIV. Similarly, those participants who do not wish to use condoms should stick to abstinence, which makes condom use as the only reliable HIV and STD'S preventive measure. The research proposal is winded up with a recommendation that the stakeholders such as health officials should encourage the women to consistently use condoms.
