Introduction
The study of psychology is part of the multifaceted academic disciplines, and such should be embraced to promote diversification of knowledge and development of all-round professionals. The key interest in the study of psychology is deduced from its concern of behavior and the mind. The American Psychological Association construe psychologists as people who understand the world better and are best placed at solving some of the major world challenges. The primary reason for the argument is aligned to the fact that they study the mind and, as such, understands the thinking of every individual.
My need, therefore, for studying psychology is narrowed down to Advanced Placement Psychology (AP Psychology) that begins with the attainment of college credits. Most of its introductory classes play a significant function in Psychology as a general major. I took the course during my junior years, and it shaped my thinking about the general ease of navigating the course, thereby demystifying the complexity assertion, and also elucidating the importance of psychology as a major. During the AP Psychology course, some of the things that surfaced included the research methodologies involved in the study of psychology, the biological foundation of behavior, the state of perception and sensation, and the view of consciousness. The other issues were on cognition, the placement of individual differences to a test, abnormality in behavior, the aspect of emotion and motivation, the treatment provided to the abnormal behavior, and the particular concerns of social psychology. The AP Psychology, therefore, acts as a stepping stone to the actual major (Psychology).
The other issue is informed by the passion of observation, understanding, and developing solutions to behavioral problems, particularly those that may call for the analysis of personality and emotions. The skill of being able to analyze the emotions and personalities of people will be useful at different levels and as such, positioning me in the place of service provision. My community will also be a prime target to mitigate community psychological problems that may lead to suicide and other undesirable outcomes.
My preference for taking the course at Cornel University has been informed by the university's commitment to ensuring the discovery, the preservation, the education of the next generation and the dissemination of knowledge, and the advancement of the culture of diversity. The pursuit of Psychology as a major in the university is, therefore, in line with the university's objective of ensuring the enhancement of people's lives, something that for a long time I have wanted to undertake. The other issue for choosing the university is based on being part of the inspiration that wishes to achieve in the 21st century through comprehensive research in different disciplines where psychology is one of them. The environment also supports learning and part of its core values. The relaxed environment will allow ease in reading and comprehension of the content of the course and its associated application to real-life situations and other disciplines. The leadership of the university also showcases a great level of professionalism and promptly address students' related concern. The proactive approach of leadership allows the university to feature amongst top schools. The previous ranking featured it at position seventeen based on the maintained academic excellence.
I promise to abide by the policies and programs of the university. I will also offer any service that may be required of me during my undergraduate program. I will be happy if my application is accepted.
