Abortion is a trending debate in many countries in the world. It is widely discussed especially on whether or not to legalize it. In some states, abortion is legal under critical conditions otherwise it's a punishable offense. In as much as the unborn child has the right to life, termination of pregnancy is considered when a mother is in distress. For instance, her health may be at stake. Poor economic status, pregnancy resulting from sexual assault, and deformities of the child are defenses given for legalizing abortion.

Abortion should be legal where the pregnancy is unfit to the mother, and continued pregnancy would put her health at stake (Grimes, 2016). In this publication, a woman is to be compensated for denial of terminating a medically prescribed abortion to ensure her safety. Most mothers may go mad or even die during or after giving birth, and the legalization of abortion would help them avoid such cases. For instance, when a mother is sick and required urgent treatment that can harm the baby, she should be allowed to abort then get treated. This saves her life and avoids the case of a child born with problems attributed to her treatment.

In a matter of fetal deformation such as severe genetic problems or mental defects, termination is opted (Reuters in Valparaiso, 2015). A country would prefer viable and productive citizens who would participate in the growth of the country. It is, therefore, advisable to allow abortion in such cases. In cases of rape, abortion is appropriate to avoid the mental torture of the victim due to denial. In 1930s countries such as Turkey, Mexico and Poland legalized abortion following a case of sexual assault. In marriage, pregnancies due to rape are mostly unacceptable. Termination helps avoid chaos and misunderstanding in the family because men won't take responsibility for a child out of wedlock (Senate of Chile 33).

Conclusion

For reasons such as poverty, abortion should be legal. The mother may not be able to raise a child due to poor economic status and termination helps ease the burden. Considering abortion is authorized under different conditions in different countries, it should be legalized worldwide to take care of all the requirements. Expectant mothers should have a choice on whether or not to abort. Doing so help avoid children being born but not receiving proper care from parents. Abortion should thus be legalized to cater for situations such as poverty, mother's health being at stake, sexual assault, and severe genetic mutations and mental defects.
