Introduction
Whose hospital is Brendan Hospital? Provide a supporting rationale for your response. The hospital was a psychiatric facility which is located in the Grangegorman suburbs. The buildings which were associated with the medical center have been demolished, closed down or fallen into disrepair. The hospital has five which are located in the old buildings and contain eighty-four beds utilized by the psychiatric patients. After the conduction of a report by the inspector concerned with mental health services, conclusions were made that the admissions to units 3A and 3B should stop due to the units' unsuitability (Goldsteen & Goldsteen, 2012). The patients' started being transferred to Connoly hospital thus making the old units unfunctional as a psychiatric facility.
Was the hospital board justified in taking the actions it did? Provide a supporting rationale for your response. The staff of the hospital is accountable to the supervisor and their patients while the supervisors' reports to the head of the department who later hold accountability to Wherry. The management of the hospital ensured the ideas, policies and the directives provided by Wherry are conveyed to their juniors and actions taken for accomplishing the assigned tasks. For example, the issue such as bad attitudes and poor morale among the employees in the hospital are dealt with by Wherry who provides appropriate staff to rectify the problems (Mannion, Davies, Jacobs, Kasteridis, Millar & Freeman, 2017). Therefore, the board at the Brendan hospital had to develop trust with the chosen leaders through the support of the decisions made.
Based on your readings, what would you advise the Brendan Hospital board do to be more effective in the future? Provide two recommendations with supporting the rationale for each. The hospital should develop more accountability and trust among their patients and other hospitals stakeholders to ensure alignment of the hospitals' activities and service delivery. For example, the board of trustees did not have trust with Wherry which made them call for a petition. If the staff had confidence and were accountable to the CEO, the activities carried out by the hospital could have promoted quality delivery of medical services.
The management should examine the leadership and culture of the hospital hence enabling them to address the hospitals' weaknesses and improving their strength for appropriate service delivery. The stakeholders seemed not to have past knowledge about Brendan hospital which made them not to have mastered the weaknesses and strengths of the hospital. If the board of trustees had adequate knowledge concerning the strengths of the hospital, they could not have called for a petition which reduced the effectiveness of hospitals service delivery.
