One of the significant challenges in the 21st century is the issue of immigration. Multitudes of people are opting to leave their motherlands in search of greener pastures in countries that they deem as stable both financially and politically. War, drought and poverty are some of the leading causes of immigration. However, not all the immigrants seek refuge in another country with a clear motive, in recent times, drug traffickers have taken advantage of porous borders to penetrate drugs from one nation to another. A perfect example of such an instance is in the USA Mexico border, where drug lords seeking to expand their drug territories have crossed over from Mexico and into the United States. The introduction of dangerous drugs, people, weapons and other harmful products has drawn a fierce reaction from the United States government (Nail 189). President Trump has vowed to construct a border wall which will help in stopping the Mexicans people and other immigrants from entering the United States. In spite of these facts, not all people have welcomed the idea, some have insisted that, instead of the Americans isolating themselves, they should help the Mexican government in the war against drugs, and control of the people's movement (Martin 1713). However, construction of the border wall is a necessary evil which the government badly need to keep out the harmful elements from hurting the citizen's way of life, their peace and stability.

As the saying goes, Rome was not built in one day. The history of the American people is one full of extraordinary courage and robust decision making. It was out of the forefather's sacrifices and suffering that a nation anchored in liberty, democracy and the rule of law was established. Abraham Lincoln once stated that "It is rather for us, the living, we here be dedicated to the great task remaining before us that from these honoured dead, we take increased devotion to that cause for which they here, gave the last full measure of devotion. That we here highly resolve these dead shall not have died in vain" ("Gettysburg Address by Abraham Lincoln"). By this Lincoln encouraged the people of the united states to always defend what is right, and never take for granted the freedoms that they enjoy, for many people lost their lives so that they may have a better one. Therefore, it would be a great betrayal to these ideals if the Americans allowed dangerous people and goods to penetrate their borders and into the American soil. Every government must ensure that the citizens are protected from harm, and the territorial integrity of the nation is respected. If Criminal gangs were allowed to enter the country and unleash havoc would be a setback to any advanced nation, and the American people should always prioritise on their safety first, before hospitality.

Critics of the plan to build the wall argue that, in doing so, the American people will be isolating themselves and this will hurt diversity. However, this argument is false and misleading for the government is only seeking to regulate and determine who and what enters or leaves the country. The aim of building the border wall is not to shut off everyone from entering the country, after all, no man is an island, and no nation can survive alone (Martin 1720). Instead, the plan aims at stopping criminal gangs, illegal migrants who want to hurt the economy, drugs and narcotics among other harmful elements from gaining access. Therefore, the right people who have clear intentions of doing business with the American people are still welcomed to enter through proper channels and laws. All the goods can then be taxed and inspected before they enter and leave the United States.

The cost of building the border wall has also posed a significant challenge, with some arguing that billions of dollars will be put into waste(Nail 187). However, there is always a cost of freedom, and for the American people to preserve their way of life, promote security and unity, securing their border is a small price to pay. After all, the cost incurred in the war against drugs, organised criminals and illegal migrants is far much than what the government might spend in the construction of the wall. Technically, most of the people who have been found guilty of committing crimes are mostly because of drugs, gang-related crimes among other problems brought about by uncontrolled movement along the American border.

The existence of the wall will promote the creation of jobs. It's a foregone conclusion that illegal immigrants have played a significant role in taking duties which ought to be done by the American citizens. They are preferred by employers who want to pay them cheaper than the average American minimum wage. These immigrants are denied most of their working rights and benefits as they are not entitled to be in America and thus not protected by the constitution. The employment of the illegal immigrants has presented unemployment crisis in that most American people cannot find work. This trend has created bitter and harsh resentment towards the immigrants because in most cases, people see them as the source of their problems and financial constraints (Nail 185). The harsh attitude towards foreigners if not addressed by the government might trigger a situation where the people decide to chase away the foreigners and take back their jobs. To avert this impending crisis from happening; the government should move with speed and ensure that the wall is promptly completed to stop more people from pouring into the country.

Conclusion

In conclusion, every government reserves the right to act unilaterally and defend the rights and the interests of its people. In a world which is more dangerous and complicated than ever before, building a wall to keep the nation safe is paramount. However, this does not permit the government to turn a blind eye to the suffering of other people. The wall only secures the nation, but to foster the world peace, all the governments must come together and address the challenges that exist in the world.
