Also, diversity will foster the company's reputation, which is instrumental in the contemporary competitive business environment (Green & Spadaro, 2014). Considering the business environment on which Wegmans operates, it should focus on diversity in employee backgrounds as that will enable it to cultivate the much-needed good relations with the community. Equally important, diversity in skills and abilities will help the company in consolidating a different set of strengths that will inevitably contribute to better performance (Garnero et al., 2014). Further, Wegmans should emphasize the diversity of personal traits. Undeniably, employees with distinct personal traits such as social dominance, friendliness, and, more importantly, emotional stability will ensure that the company achieves the desired goals (Green & Spadaro, 2014). Moreover, employees with positive traits such as conventionality will influence their colleagues to adopt strategies that will enhance the company's performance. Moreover, cultural diversity will help in creating a convergence of cultural ideas and beliefs that mirrors the society in which the business operates, and this will be beneficial in achieving the organizational goals.

Furthermore, Wegmans should focus on age and generation diversity to ensure that people with deep business experience continue to work for the company to train young employees to sustain the company's growth (Green & Spadaro, 2014). It is worth noting that Wegmans often strive to increase customer experience and emphasizing on age diversity will ensure that strength coming from young employees is combined with experience from older workers to spur the company's growth. More significantly, focusing on race and ethnicity diversity will enable Wegmans to attract many talented employees from different races that will infuse their ideas into the business to help in boosting the business performance (Green & Spadaro, 2014). Additionally, focusing on gender diversity will promote a good reputation of the company, and this will potentially increase the customer base hence allowing Wegmans to edge its competitors.

Despite the benefits of employee diversity at Wegmans, some inherent downsides may be harmful to the company. When the company focuses primarily on building a diverse workforce without creating a culture of tolerance and dignity will breed tension that is detrimental to the company (Green & Spadaro, 2014). Moreover, diversity in the workforce may result in communication problems that will destroy employees' relationships, thus disrupting the achievement of the company's goals. Furthermore, background and cultural diversity of the workforce may create disharmony that will inevitably prevent adoption of teamwork that is integral in achieving desired results (Green & Spadaro, 2014). More imperatively, diversity in the workplace may bring together employees with different personal traits some of which may be negative for the growth of the business. Also, some employees may take advantage of their colleagues' ability and skills, and fail to provide the much-needed energy to enhance the company's business performance. Diversity of the workforce will create a pool of different attitudes that may be difficult to manage, thus creating adverse effects on the company.

It should be noted that the company should leverage the benefits of the diversity of the workforce by creating cultures that will enhance understanding among employees to achieve the set organizational goals. Further, the company should develop programs that will impart managers with the necessary expertise to enable them to manage the diverse workforce effectively. Also, Wegmans should promote respect that will blur background diversity and sets employees in the path of improving the company's business performance. More critically, the company should encourage diverse employees to use their skills and ideas to enhance creativity and productivity.
