1. Right to Life

The right to life can be defined as the supreme right upon which no violation is permitted even at the time of emergency in that every individual has equal opportunities to enjoy the fruits of life. The right to life is universal in that all the other rights are joined to this right include freedom from torture and genocide. The right applies to all people who are alive unless those who have been sentenced to death. However, this right has limitations especially during armed conflicts which can lead to unintended loss of lives. Capital punishment delineates the right to life in that those who are sentenced to it are deprived of it.

2. Genocide

Genocide is an activity planned to destroy the foundations of the life of a group of people who possess similar characteristics so that they cannot be in a position to carry out what their activities. Such components may be political, cultural, religious, or racial among others as long as they form a national group. Incidences of genocide include the Rwandan prevalence whereby the Tutsi community was being murdered mercilessly. Another incident is in Yugoslavia where the Radovan Karadzic and the Bosnian Serb were judged for practicing genocide during the war in which some ethnic groups were being tortured and killed.

The current international tribunals have been an appropriate response to genocide since they fight against all the forms of genocide behaviors practiced against any national group. Also, according to the definition of genocide, the acts perpetrated by the Nazis during World War II, Stalin in 1928, Khmer Rouge in 1975 can be termed as genocide they involved torture and killing of national groups.

3. Violation of Physical and Mental Integrity of Persons

Hierarchy of treatment is typically done to confirm the functioning of the motor and speech fluency of an individual. Such therapies have been conventional in rating people who are suspected to have a mental and physical problem in the state of law. Also, corporal punishment is inhumane and a form of inhuman treatment and torture since the corps subject people to pain and suffering.

Since all individuals have a right to life and freedom from torture, detainees should as well be granted the same.

Michael who is an American teenager goes on a vandalism spree, and he is subjected to the hard labor of spraying windows and painting cars. He also sentenced to receive 40 lashes of a whip. According to the Torture Convention, individuals should not be subjected to ill-treatment even when they are convicted.
