Introduction
The primary concern of justice is fairness, and the principle of equity requires individuals with the greatest need to have the utmost claim of resources. This means that universal morality considers everyone equal regardless of their sexual orientation, health, education, gender, race, religion, and other characteristics. In the US, these fundamental rights are well enshrined in the constitution. Therefore, it is fair to have absolute equality for all individual's because everybody has equal fundamental rights. This paper address whether the wealthy nations (like the US) should not favor their nationals in employment decisions, because doing so contributes to a morally objectionable inequality.
The principle of justice and fairness consider everyone to have equal rights and liberty regardless of their race, gender, sex, nationality and religion (Buchanan 175). Therefore, I believe wealthy nations like the US should not to favor their nationals when offering employment opportunities because it contributes to a morally objectionable inequality. The moral obligation towards citizens or nationals should be similar to our moral obligations to immigrants especially those seeking employment. Everyone has the right to basic liberty similar to the liberty of others, and everyone is entitled to equal treatment. For example, a candidate or an applicant with the best qualifications for a given position should be given the opportunity instead of discriminating based on their arbitrary traits. Therefore, the moral obligation of the employer is to choose an applicant by first giving everyone an equal opportunity and not solely because of one's race or nationality. Besides, it is not morally permissible to employ an individual who may not have necessary skills and knowledge for a particular position because he/she is your family, friend, or from your country. I believe that everybody with necessary skills should be able to find a job both domestically and internationally without discrimination or favorism.
Based on Rawls' theory of justice, economic and social inequalities should be arranged in a manner that they expected to be advantageous to everyone. Every person should share in society's wealth, and everybody should get remuneration from wealth distribution without favors (Buchanan 180). Although not all employees should be paid the same, the positions in an office should be open to all and have similar benefits. Regardless of once origin, race or nationality, your fundamental rights must be protected and should not be negotiated to ensure equal opportunities for every person in society. These freedom and rights are only fair if they benefit the worst off (Buchanan 181). In this way, both migrants and nationals will have equal right to apply for employment positions and the firms have the moral responsibility to give every person equal opportunity that may not enhance the advantages and benefits of the nationals.
Conclusion
In summary, the equality of opportunity and the principle of justice require everyone to have equal chances and equal liberties as provided in the US constitution. Universal morality is that everyone deserves equal moral consideration regardless of any kind of characteristic like national origins. It does not make sense that someone would prefer hiring someone from their country because they would like to help out their own. Such a reason for choosing an employee is biased and morally wrong. This denies someone with better experience and better knowledge the same opportunity because morally, everyone deserves the same chance for a job regardless of their nationality, ethnicity, or gender.
