Introduction
Creativity is a feature in which an item that is exclusively new and valuable is formed. There are two values that creativity should have namely novelty and significance. He item composed can be intangible or can be physical. Some of the invisible things include ideas, musical composition, a joke, or a scientific theory during physical includes paintings, literary work, and inventions. According to Dr. E. Paul, creativity is defined as "process of becoming sensitive to problems, deficiencies, gaps in knowledge, missing elements, disharmonies, and so on; identifying the difficulty; searching for solutions, making guesses, or formulating hypotheses about the deficiencies; testing and retesting these hypotheses and possibly modifying and retesting them, and finally communicating the results."
Creativity taps the inner resources of individuals such as knowledge, inspiration, information, and insight, and all fragments that the brain has collected all our lives and combines them to produce an extraordinary new thing. The collection and combination of these resources require commitment and passion. It enables us to make use of what is in the past to come up with something new and create ecstasy.
When did the concept of creativity become disassociated from divine inspiration?
The concept of creativity became disassociated from divine inspiration during the time of renaissance when people perceived creation as having its origin from the abilities of people and not from God. There was a leading intellectual movement at that time, which could have profoundly contributed to this. The action was termed humanism, which developed a human-centric outlook on the world. Creativity was, therefore, attributed to the intellect and achievement of individuals.
What are the four stages of the creative process and how do they work
There are four main proposed stages of the creative process, mainly preparation, incubation, illumination, and implementation.
Preparation
This is the initial stage in which an individual learns or reviews what they already know and are familiar with. The information being reviewed should coincide with the project that is being worked on.
Incubation
Once the preparation is done, the forces of creativity start working on the mind to try come up in with something new. This is called the subconscious level. These ideas would begin to form in dreams and vague thoughts. They are usually blocked by stress and daily struggles in life.
Illumination
At this stage, the ideas become clear, real, and literal. The person would also know what should happen in the next project; for example, in a painting, an individual may get to know which shades would be used precisely and where they would be shaded. The shortcoming of illumination is that it comes at the most unexpected and, in often cases inconveniencing situations. This may be when one is a business meeting or taking a shower so that they cannot write it down. It is advisable, therefore, that individuals keep writing materials near them at all times.
Implementation
This is the stage where the idea is actualized, and the person brings it to action.
Why is creativity important in business?
The business environment currently IV very competitively, and the organization has to find ways of outdoing their competitors. The employees would, therefore, need to be creative and come up with new ideas that would encourage innovation. Creativity also fuels continue to change in which the changing customer needs and wants would be met.
Why is it more important now than 50 years ago?
The changing needs and wants of customers are ever rapid and rampant at the moment, especially where alternatives and substitutes are readily available. This calls the businesses not only for sustainability but for continuous innovation.
What is divergent thinking?
This involves dividing a topic into sections and exploring the parts to generate new ideas. It is outward thinking in which unique and original designs are made through the exploration of multiple sources.
What is convergent thinking?
This involves bringing facts and data from various sources and applying logic and knowledge to solve a problem or make informed decisions.
Do we want to separate convergent and divergent thinking?
No. divergent thinking engages the mind to creativity while convergent thinking tunes this creativity with psychology and physiology.
What are emotions?
This is a psychophysiological response to stimuli as a result of a mental process and ultimately influences behavior.
Describe someone's possible emotional responses to a phone call? What does it depend on? How and by what means can the emotional reaction to it be changed?
When an individual is expecting and not expecting the phone call, the response to the request would depend on disposition, cognition, and design. The design would play a significant role in emotional response while placement, perception, and environmental factors would influence change to the emotional response.
Explain JTBD (job to be done) what four forces are acting on a person wanting to make a change?
Job to be done is a representation of a task that is yet to be done. Four main forces are acting on a person who wants to change mainly, push by situations, the magnetism of a new solution, present habits and anxiety for new solutions to be done is the urgency that a trigger builds towards meeting the need and want. Triggers are encountered frequently and act as a signal of a job to be done. Most of these triggers would employ existing solutions until a switch trigger is identified. A switch trigger violates expectations and, therefore, requires the invention of new solutions as the current alternatives cannot satisfy it. This, thus, gives room for the design and creation of new ideas.
What are affordances, signifiers, and mental models?
Affordances are concepts that are used to avoid negative experiences in the course of use in design. A signifier gives a clarification of affordance by describing what objects do. A mental model is a mental representation of how users perceive the system to work. There are four types of affordances, mainly cognitive, physical, sensory, and functional, which enable users to understand how a product is used and the purposes they might serve best. This is to be done in a way that the user would recognize it instantly. They see the product and are able to determine its purpose.
What is bad about having fictional personas? Why is it better to use real people rather than inventing personas?
Fictional personas emerge from UX design terms in experiments and not from the research of the user. It would require a researcher to make n based on experience, which can be deeply flawed. It is advised that real people be used because the risk of using personas is that we may end up creating them. The product may fit and individual and not the persona.
What are the different stages of the customer journey?
The customer journey in the modern world follows findability, reputation, conversion, and advocacy. Findability involves searching through avenues such as PPC, use of apps, directories, applications, GPS, and organic search. Reputation means research in which reports are presented in articles and blogs, social media, and reviews, among other avenues. Conversion is where value is created through purchase through online booking, websites, application purchasing, salesperson, marketing materials, and physical selling. Advocacy involves post-purchase behavior in which expectations and reality are compared-social posts, reviews, and blogs. The significance of this is that it influences the decision of the customer whether to use the service again and, if satisfied, would invite the next person.
What is the percentage of brain cells connected to your hands? What are the benefits of working with your hand making prototypes?
Research indicates that the percentage of the brain that is connected to the hands is about 70-80% (Rasmussen Consulting, 2018). This is the biases that doers, tinkers, builders, and crafters have in that action requires getting our heads to hands as we look at the people we serve. Where prototyping is used, individuals can use anything within their disposal to create something sophisticated. Therefore, it does not matter what we out in use but instead uses what is available to come up with ideas and learn how to make it better.
A first rough mockup/prototype of your idea should take no more than a day? Why?
The mockup of an idea should not take more than a day so that feedback and be collected from the users and make adjustments to the prototype as much as possible. Taking longer days may require it to be redone and inconveniencing the owner of the idea as they are attached to it. The reason for this is that the initial conception of new ideas spams several views, and doing it within short people would enable incorporation of all these details. It also gives space for starting from a narrow point and progressing to the more extensive sections. It also provides an opportunity of exploring other variations in the line of creativity.
How does Ikea innovation teamwork? Who is part of it?
The Ikea team works in that each one contributes their specialist knowledge in the development of a new product. Those who are part of this team include designers, logistics engineers, purchasers, marketing, and the user representative. They determine the design materials and suitable suppliers.
Mention some examples of how innovation is fostered in companies
Some of the ways innovation is encouraged in companies is through practical empathy, solving problems using convergent and divergent thinking, and co-creation with the clients.
Mention and discuss two different ways of measuring ROI for innovation
There are two main ways of measuring ROI for change, which include: Measuring the number of prototypes iteration per feature and measuring the number of concurrent prototypes. The first method that employees measure by function enables a comparison of different projects regardless of the size of the project and the sets of features. When prototypes are created in parallel, the outcomes become more reliable than those that have been created in series.
