The bride is the only person whom he can tell the story about the kind of suffering she experienced from his prostitute mother during his childhood life. The book also highlights key issues that must be done to a child during their childhood life. According to the book, the Bride mother explains that what you do to a child matter and sometimes such actions may not come out of their minds even if they become adults. Within the book, there is also evidence of how a young woman made a desperate choice to seek love from her mother and the extent to which such kinds of love shaped her adult life and the steps she made to overcome her mistakes to be a stable woman. In the book, it is evident that there are certain consequences that ladies who do not meet beauty standards face. For that matter, the book portrays beauty as an obsession which forms the foundation of the novel. According to the novel, beauty is shown as a very important thing that can lead to discrimination and make somebody work very hard to achieve irrespective of the kind of suffering one goes through. In the same book, it is taken that whiteness is the beauty standard which every girl must have to be considered beautiful and this portrays the young girl as a lady that desires to acquire whiteness and bluest eye to be among the beautiful ladies in America. Since Breedlove is black, she, therefore, cannot meet the beauty standard of America, as a result, she becomes obsessed to have a blue eye. Even though Breedlove is very beautiful and there is no other part of her body which is ugly, she cannot fit into American society. The author, therefore, tries to explain what is ugly and the truth behind being considered ugly without proper explanation.

The death of this two of his friends made him develop psychological problem resulting from what he saw. Besides, the book also highlights the key contribution of Frank Money as he is seen killing very many people including a young Korean girl which made her suffer from the post-traumatic stress disorder. Furthermore, the book also exposes what happens to frank after leaving the army. According to the book, he suffered various psychological problems such as drinking a lot of alcohol and also lives on the streets. Frank could not afford to live a decent life and therefore depends on other people such as relatives. On the contrary, the book also focuses on the kind of change that Frank Money made after long psychological stress. The book explains what brought change in his life. The book explains that he changed after meeting Lily who is working at a dry cleaner a place where Frank has been taking army pants and jackets for cleaning. Finally, the book also described how frank Money ran from the psychiatric ward to go back to his hometown Lotus. The reason for the escape is also critically explained in the book as he was running to save his sister who was suffering from peculiar diseases. The book also explains what happens to frank on his way home to Lotus. He was discriminated against race because he is a black man who is staying in an area where segregation has not been fully abolished. The book also reveals the characters of Frank. He is seen helping and rescuing people such as Cee who are a local woman of Lotus. He also helps other neighbours who have been supporting Cee.
