Introduction
Best war ever book was written by Michael Adams Chapter two is titled no Easy answers and talks about World War 2 and Folklore version that world war two was caused by factors that were clear to everyone and straight forward. In the article, the simple version states that the war was as a result of actons by the world dictators of Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan who were on an expansion mode. It was after their continued expansion that the dominant countries in Europe such as Britain and France recognized that they needed to tame the bullies through war. It was a simple version of World War 2. The assertion by this sentiment is accurate but does not carry the whole truth; hence, the argument in the chapter that there are no easy answers as the above version tends to put across.
It is chapter two that there are no simple answers to the war. Italy which had embraced dictatorship like Germany sometimes sided with Britain and France against Germany. The policy of appeasement in Europe which had carried the blame for causing the Second World War was not the only policy that led to the second World War. The war between Japan and the USA during the Second World War happened in a region where deterrence policy was adopted. Appeasement and deterrence policies led to the Second World War, thus blaming the appeasement policy in Europe does not hold (Adams, 1994).
Paragraph five of chapter two states that the causes of war go back into the 18th century. It is when there were conflicts about governance, rule and citizenship. There were opposing forces on whether people required any government to control them or they could as well government themselves since they have brains and are rational. Opposers of lack of government stated that self-governance would lead to chaos. Nations also tended to support democracy in good times and dictators in bad times. Thus the cause of the Second World War may have been an outcome of long-term philosophical conflict (Adams, 1994).
During the period of 18th and 19th century, countries and citizens, in general, were fighting for material well-being and industrialization. Expansion of territories got the consideration as the only way to achieve this. Germany was the dominant player in the second world war. The American military was also involved in the war, and American becomes an international player with influence. After the war, the chapter states that that American continued to trade with essential countries despite some of them being dictatorial. Industrialization and trade were the main factors that helped countries become powerful nations. Japan, for example, was said to have become an Asian power because of the growth in business and industry (Adams, 1994).
In 1904 Japan went ahead and defeated Russia during the war in the region of Manchuria. Japan got into loggerheads with America after all Japanese and Asian e immigrants were discriminated by a law which stated that the Japanese were not eligible for American citizenship. This and many other factors compelled to fight for their space and sufficiency in the world through military conquest. It contributed to World War 2. The great depression affected countries and the world economy in many ways and could have resulted in the Second World War. Local politics, especially in Germany, led to the rise e of dictatorship that promoted socialism since capitalism had already proved as a wrong idea (Adams, 1994).
Conclusion
In conclusion, many factors led to the Second World War. Chapter two states the causes of second world war cannot be simplified as they were many and intertwined. The war shaped the political and economic direction of many European countries as well as USA and Japan.
