Introduction
A narrative storytelling essay is a drafted piece of work, in which the author gives his/her ideas about a particular event (Kearney & Williams, 1996). A narrative is just another name for a story.
Poor Parenting
He got out of his car with the car keys in his right hand. At a glance, one could tell that the man was in deep sorrow. David, Patel's father, had just arrived from work. But there was one unusual thing that happened that day; he arrived earlier than usual. Something unexpected must have transpired at his home.
It was towards the close of the year. Patel had just completed his high school studies and was expecting to join the University in the following year. All through his high school life, Patel was an ambitious young man. His ambition was reflected not only with his excellent performance but also how he related with his fellow students and friends back at home. His mother was proud of him. As David's eldest child, Patel's siblings had somebody to look upon for guidance.
At the time when David arrived from work, Patel was not at home. The door to the living room was wide open. To his surprise, when he got in, his wife Maria was lying on the floor, helpless, crying. The only words that came out of her mouth were Patel! Patel! Patel!"What has he done?" David shouted, but at the same time, afraid. "The police," she replied. "What about the police?" they took Patel.
David could not believe what he heard from Maria. He left the house, took his car, and drove to the police station. After arriving at the station, David only demanded to see his son. He introduced himself as Patel's father. After recording all the required details, the officer in charge told David that he had a rib to crack with him. "Would you have a seat, please?" the officer requested. David sat and relieved his breath. He seemed so anxious and disturbed.
The officer began by telling David that he was sorry for what just happened to him, but they had to do it. Patel was a good son to his parents and a brilliant student in school. But something unusual happened while in school that only the teachers and the police knew. While in his final year in school, Patel and other schoolboys got caught and arrested for drug abuse cases. Since Patel was in a boarding school, the school principal decided to discipline the boys without the consent of their parents. He called the police to the school, and they took the boys. After two weeks in police custody, the principal went back and retook the boys. He promised the police that he would inform them after the boys got done with their high school studies.
The principal had to do that since Patel was one of the best performing students in his school. The boys went back to since, but they got put under severe and close monitoring. After completing their studies, the principal had to fulfill his promise. So he called the police and requested them to take their action. The evidence for the drugs is in police custody.
David could not believe his ears. Patel, his son, whom he had invested so much in, has finally frustrated him. His demand for needing to see his son got denied. The only word the officer told David was, "PROVIDING FOR YOUR FAMILY DOES NOT MAKE YOU A GOOD FATHER, but a good parent has time for his family." David left in deep sorrow but also regretted it.
