Introduction

Personal and professional development is an approach that covers integrated modern methods, achievement psychology and motivation, self-help, and self-discovery. Individuals and organizations are able to benefit from this approach h in various ways. For instance, the individual acquires skills that enable him to work efficiently while the organization benefits from these skills as far as growth and development are concerned. According to Lussier & Achua, (2015), the models and theories that this approach discusses are, neuro-linguistic programming, energy psychology, humanistic theories, as well as human development.

Modern personal development that is used in the contemporary world encompasses more as aspect than skills training. When compared to mentoring and coaching, it provides more alternatives that are useful. When an individual improves, the chances of improving the performance of the business are high. The process of personal development allows an individual to attain personal changes that are critical like releasing blocks which have been a hindrance to maximizing his potential; satisfaction and congruency increase; and updating personal beliefs, values, attitudes, and personal identity.

Integrated personal development, is beneficial where a professional is limited to benefits of mentoring or one-on-one coaching as well. Additionally, it helps where one has instigated reactions that are surprising. It is also important to mention that those who, in some way, have difficulty in identifying a particular direction in life, but wants to develop themselves can benefit from this approach. It helps the individual to settle the past, reduce the energy required in the present, and helps in formulating a future that can be considered compelling. It is basically essential in achieving results like creating balance in the individual (whole system); it is realistic because the individual can relate with it and achieve set goals; it increases personal control, and it reduces stress. In a one-on-one coaching as well as training resulting from traditional skills, it is very hard to find these factors. They, therefore, present a useful alternative in places where traditional methods cannot be relied on. Consequently, in a corporate environment, it helps in producing effectiveness in organizational performance, improving personal relationships as far as communication is concerned, and solves and reduces stress and conflicts respectively.

As a model, human development encompasses an aspect of nurture and nature. These two are the elements that have a great influence on who we are as well as our behaviors. It always begins with nature and is a lifelong process. As far as humanistic theories are concerned, their focus is purely on self-fulfillment and growth of inner capacity. Similarly, they also emphasize human potential. They suggest that for someone to be happy and successful, it is necessary to have a positive self-concept. Neuro-linguistic programming is modeled around communication and human experience. It places its importance on rapport (responsiveness and mutual trust).

Current Roles

With a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, I have been privileged to own my own business, become a personal trainer and currently am working as a gym and fitness manager. As a gym and fitness manager, I recruit, train, and supervise staff; manage the budget set aside by the organization; organize and deliver suitable and relevant fitness programs and activities; keep financial and statistical data; maintain fitness and gym equipment; ensure safety legislation as well as compliance; and maintain standards that are in tandem with overall customer standards. Similarly, I undertake administrative duties; market and promote the organization; and deal with emergencies, complaints, and inquiries

Among the skills I have that helps me perform my current role without trouble is being assertive. This skill is very common in communication and social skills training. I am able to stand up for the rights of other people and my rights as well, in a positive and calm way. I am able to do this without passively accepting the evils meted to other people or being aggressive - an asset in gym and fitness management. Similarly, I am able to pass my point across without having to upset others or even upsetting myself. As a manager, I fully understand that almost all of us act in an aggressive and passive way in certain occasions. However, it is only when one does not have self-confidence and fails to meaningfully interact with others that they resort to such actions.

Another skill that is beneficial to me in my current role is problem-solving. As a personal trainer and a gym and fitness manager, I come across various issues that need to be addressed. They require one to have a problem-solving skill to reach a profitable conclusion without incurring losses or upsetting the clients and other people I come across. Another skill is communication and personal relationship. The current duties mean that I communicate with people on many occasions. Improve my understanding of the recreation industry, improve my communication skills and ability, be a change catalyst in the industry, and improve my ability as far as hiring, assessing, promoting, and developing staff are concerned. These objectives are assessed, monitored frequently and appraised after every four months.
