Introduction

Every stakeholder in preventing and solving the issues of victimized individuals in domestic violence has to understand the nature and the scope of the specific type of violence. The individuals at risk or the victimized ones need communication about what comprises or does not involve domestic violence. The process of actualizing justice to victims and survivors of domestic violence is tasking for the criminal justice system since ascertaining that the involved individuals are not just friends but they are indeed in an intimate relationship is the first step in the process of implementing justice.

Domestic violence manifests itself in different forms including sexual violence comprising of attacks on sexual parts and rape. Also, physical abuse including beating, slapping, punching, pushing or chocking. Manipulative behaviors such as the use of children to make the other partner feel guilty. Coercive and controlling behaviors that comprise preventing a partner from seeking employment and limitation to the freedom of movement leading to isolation from friends. Domestic violence may also take the form of emotional abuse where a partner makes the other feel bad about themselves or psychological abuse including threats to inflict harm or take away children. Abuse fits the category of domestic violence while it occurs in familial or in any intimate relationship regardless of whether the parties in conflict are living together or they are not, irrespective of whether they are cohabiting, married or from extended families (Root & Brown, 2014). The relational element, as opposed to the location, is vital in defining abuse as domestic violence. Markedly domestic violence must not occur at home, it can happen at the bus stop, on the streets, at the bar or it can get perpetrated through road accidents.

Conclusion

The scope of domestic violence extends from individuals in intimate relationships to include violence whether the abused and the abuser are related through blood including child and elder abuse. The extent of domestic can be judged from the United States statistics that reveals that women are more likely to be battered, murdered or raped by an intimate partner than another kind of attackers (The United States, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, 2018). Also, violence ranges from subtle forms that include interfering with another individual peace to threatening, stalking or hitting someone with about nineteen percent of attacks conducted by use of weapons. Some individuals are at a greater risk of domestic violence compared to others, for instance, those planning to end abusive relationships, the poor, unemployed, those with an unplanned pregnancy and abused children. At present, there is a rise in domestic violence among individuals in same-sex relationships and victimization of the male partner by the female partner.
