A leadership style is defined as the leader’s distinctive behaviors when motivating, directing, guiding, and managing groups of people (Al Khajeh 6). Enneagram refers to a model of personality that contains nine personality categories that relate closely to each based on the geometry of the enneagram diagram (Scheessele 25). What I found interesting in the leadership framework is the different leadership skills approaches applied in different leadership styles. Also, it was interesting to understand how effective each leadership style is. Understanding well the leadership styles framework has changed my leadership style greatly. I realize that democratic leadership is the most effective since it gives participants the to engage in decision-making; hence I was able to gain new ideas and creative inputs that are likely to be gained when using other leadership styles. It was interesting to learn that the Enneagram is a system of personality capturing that explains patterns in how an individual interprets the globe and controls their emotions. All the nine types of enneagram personalities cannot be scored equally in life as reflected by my scores, which vary from highly scored 98% and low scored 47%, but they play a crucial role when adhered to keenly. I was so proud to realize that I belong to type one of the Enneagram personality, which is “the perfectionist.” I developed a desire to enhance my level by adhering to any set rules and performing my work correctly without any biases.
Yes. I learned that I should engage with other people positively and allow them to participate in the decision-making process. I will relate in a different manner as before since I will apply the concept of the Enneagram personality and leadership styles framework when interacting with other people.
Leadership style frameworks and Enneagram have a close connection since both of them assist leaders and other people to deeply understand the key focus in life based on their type, biases, strengths, and blind spots. More so, an individual’s Enneagram personality type guides a leader on the type of leadership styles framework to adopt. The connections that exist between leadership style and Enneagram have positive implications in my workplace when choosing the appropriate leadership style to use when managing employees.
Going forward, I will always apply the concept of enneagram and leadership styles when making any decision in life. Therefore, I will do more research on the best techniques and methods to adopt in order to gain and understand well the concept of Enneagram when checking for my type and also understand well the different types of leadership. To improve my leadership and decision-making skills, I will always apply the knowledge I have acquired in my day-to-day activities in different areas.
