Introduction

In analyzing various decisions and coming up with the right it is important to consider various viewpoints, in this case, it is the Humean Point of view. In the humean point of view, there is need to focus on what is abstract and experimental together with the associated knowledge. Uncle Dave, in this case, has to weight the differences in beliefs among Melinda and Melissa who are the sisters to the diseases and who have the sole mandate of deciding what should be done with the body of Mathew. The only setback for uncle Mathew, in this case, is the belief held by Melinda who still views Mathew as existing even though without a brain but as a soul. On the other hand, Melissa views Mathews state being just a body and therefore lacking the personality associated with human beings. Uncle Dave further brings change into the thinking and would add more credence to Melissa's belief through his understanding, which is shaped by humean thinking. In this regard, the uncle would have to properly align his arguments in bringing Melinda to the human point of view and thus providing a unitary approach in decision making for the two sisters. The humean point of view according to Uncle Dave requires abstract reasoning in any conclusions drawn. To bring the two sisters together will require the need to focus on their beliefs, which are quite different. Through matters of fact, there is the need to consider the lack of brain in the body of Mathew as rendering him a body and lifeless as this inference are made from the experience associated with the vegetative state (Flew, 2014). Moreover, Uncle Dave would require explaining to Melinda that without mental capabilities as in Melinda view of them as being brain processes one lacks the fundamentals in being a person because there are no action or thoughts instigated in the process. The body is still and presents itself as lifeless though the doctors view it as showing signs of life. Furthermore, there is no existence as shown by the lifeless body, which cannot move and act a person. In going through various things, the sisters can allude to the fact of Mathew's existence and his decision that they must agree to mean that he is not in existence. The decision has been left to them because Mathew cannot do anything at present as a result.

Conclusion

In this case, Melissa is right in her though processes. Uncle Dave would thus justify his decision of Melissa being right and Melinda being wrong. In this regard, he would explain the need for evidence particularly depending on what is being seen together with focusing on existence. As such, there is no sign of life according to the humean point of view since the evidence of mental capability in Mathew is gone. He therefore no longer exists, and any holding on to his existence means that Melinda is mostly dwelling on allusion. The experimental testing on whether Mathew exits cannot be quantified in the process. Melinda would focus on the foreknowledge of the incident and show mental capacities cannot predict the future exactly as Mathew did a therefore rationally looking at the matter is not enough showing that a person can still exist even though there is no brain.
