The Bahamas is a widespread set of Islands and a country that was located in the West Indies in the northwestern edge. The Bahamas country gained its independence in 1973 with the help of commonwealth. Earlier on, the Bahamas was colonized by the British. Many historians believed that the name 'Bahamas' meant "shallow water" and it originated from the Spanish. The increased popularity of the tourists in the Islands, mostly from North America, aided to preserve a comparatively high living standard. In the Bahamas Islands, tourism is one of the major industries that are so common in the country. The industry has provided many opportunities and jobs for the citizens of The Bahamas. If it was not for the tourism industry, the economy of Bahamian would experience very stern hardships. The people of Bahamas seriously took care of it since it was a resource that was very precious and it had to be cherished. It was the responsibility of the Bahamian's to take egotism in their beautiful islands and help maintain that product of tourism. The tourism industry in the Bahamas is an important developing and lively industry and it was the chief engine for the development of the economy of the nation. It had a mature infrastructure of tourism that supported around 3.5 million vacation visitors per year, 1.5 million stop-off tourists and the industry progressive service. Type of Tourists and Motivation for Travel

A tourist is a person who travels to various countries for various for purposes such as leisure, health, recreation, sports, business, family reasons, as a representative at a conference, on a mission. The tourist spends 24 hours or to the place of his/ her visit but they should not stay for more than one year. Tourists are classified into three sectors. These are domestic, international and regional tourists. The tourist who travels within his or her own residence or country is called a domestic tourist. An international tourist is defined as the person who visits another country apart from the country that he/she belongs to. The tourist who visits a given geographical area that is within the country is known as a regional tourist. In The Bahamas, the tourists are classified into four categories. They include stopover or overnight, day, transit, and cruise. The day visitors in The Bahamas are the ones who spend less than 24 hours and they are not allowed the overnight accommodation while the stopover visitors stay for about 24 hours and they spend the night either in a boat, hotel or staying with relatives and close friends. Cruise tourists are the visitors who use a cruise ship to travel and they also use it as their accommodation. Transit tourists are the ones who go to other countries but they have to pass through The Bahamas due to immigration purposes.

Due to many tourists that are visiting the islands of, the pollution of the environment has constantly increased in the islands of the Bahamas. Piling of garbage is destroying the beauty of the beaches and public parks. The poor methods of wastage disposal are causing water pollution and thus making the coral reefs to decay and also killing the aquatic plants and animals that are also some of the tourist attraction sites.
