Grammar cannot be defined in just a single sentence. It is broad and has a varied definition depending on when and how it is used. This article tries to expound in depth the different definitions of grammar and its application. The article starts by revealing that different things define grammar. One, it can be used to describe the books that have the structure of the language descriptions. Two, it can refer to the very native language that a speaker is knowledgeable of and to the expanding of that knowledge. Three, it can describe a set of rules established to regulate certain aspects and components of the usage of speakers that are native. And finally, it can be used to demonstrate a set of statutes typically equipped in schools on the appropriateness in using and proper writing.

As it continues, it brings to light the three kinds of grammars that are to consider. The first one is descriptive grammar which is concerned with describing the intention of the native speakers in using the language they use. It attempts to describe the involvement of the native speakers in using the language, and that it is grounded on the fact that the only mandate for its existence in a language is what the native speakers understand and accepts as part and parcel of the language. Prescriptive grammar is the second kind of grammar; it is intentional in controlling the native speakers in using their language. The interesting thing with this kind of grammar is that it is grounded on the fact that the existence of authorities that are better than the using and judging of the speakers who are the natives of the language. It adds that individuals who are associated with this kind of grammar offer r result out to be better users of the language. The third and the last kind of grammar mentioned I this article is the school grammar which is originally the simplified prescriptive grammar subset that is taught in our schools. The latter seems to be the most common and familiar kind of grammar known by many especially the school going. It involves things like word category definitions including nouns, verbs, prepositions and plain rules of prescriptive kind of grammar; an example of such rules include a verb should be an action word and many more others.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it sums up by bringing out the whole idea of what it means when we talk of grammar. It points outs prescriptive grams are capable of stating things that are not true at all contrary to school grammars that oversimplify. Schools should teach students the strategies to relent from producing or writing sentences that follow prescriptive rules at the expense of the descriptive ones. It is, therefore, reasonable to say that schools should take a lot of care as they teach students the facts about English. To be more specific, teaching should be an avenue to solely distinguish carefully features of all dialects of English language and the features of specific dialects and their social rules of specific writing and prescriptive grammar.
