Introduction
Technology is defined as a collection of all scientific inventions, innovations, and investigations, which have led to an instruction of several software and hardware tools for personal and organizational uses. The changes have created new skills, methods, and various techniques, including the widely used social media applications or platforms such as Facebook and Instagram. Its innovative ideas have continued to develop some of the most potent hardware components, such as mobile phones, computers, among other electrical gadgets. Researchers have identified in the past that; the newly born tools of technologies are consuming most of the man's hours. For instance, Facebook is one of the applications that is accessed by over a billion people in a single day, according to the social media reports of the year 2017 (Primack et al.) It serves a various listed role;
Facebook is the first promoter of loneliness because as one takes longer hours in the site, the possible number of hours of associating with the society members is reduced; hence one becomes isolated. Secondly, as one spends a longer time in Facebook, peculiar immoral behaviors are likely to get attracted, making one a different being with other society members in terms of behavior. However, Facebook is also a useful tool or model that can help in connecting friends and family members who are far away from one another. It may be that the two parties are staying now due to apparent reasons caused by marriages, employment, or personal reasons to relocate.
First, it is critical to note that Facebook significantly promotes loneliness beyond reasonable levels. For example, in the process of surfing through the site, one may get to see pictures and videos posted by other friends or people they know. The images can be consisting of vehicles, good houses, family pictures, among others. This may cause envy to the individual, especially if they have not attained whatever appears in the scenes, such that they begin thinking as if they are not part and parcel of the community or as if they are suffering (Cooper and Campbell Quick). The activity may continue and eventually lead to a sign of loneliness, which can further trigger stress disorders. Researchers have found the effects may even worse for those who take not less than two hours every day on Facebook. Reports indicate that these group of individuals are likely to suffer severe instances of social isolation and loneliness more than them who takes only an hour or less every day on Facebook. Furthermore, Brian Primack called for international attention from the world health organization in collaboration with other bodies dealing with heath, to stress on the interventions of preventing this menace of social isolation, which is typically more prevalent in for the children aged 15-25 (Gruzd et al.). The core reason as to why measures and strategies for curbing the problem should be developed as soon as possible is to prevent the current increasing numbers of children suffering from mental disorders, of which studies depicted clearly that a higher percentage of the mental illnesses were originating from the social isolation and loneness.
Besides, Facebook has dramatically replaced the entire ancient social life, where people used to meet, engage in various activities such as sports and create intense bondage and brotherhood. This was majorly built through continuous interactions and communications. Upon the introduction of Facebook, the majority have reversed the situation and are now considering online communication rather than one-on-one communication. Through Facebook, there is less time to communicate because, one may not talk to anyone freely since Facebook only works when one logs in, and different people have different times of logging in. Also, one may log in and immediately logs out again after feeling demoralized, for example, after realizing that some of the former schoolmates and agemates friends are doing well in life, and are making severe advancements. A majority also get affected when they like and comment on pictures by about five to eight percent. In summary, in as much as Facebook also have positive impacts on the current era, its don'ts still outweigh the dos.
Nevertheless, the primary notion that Facebook promotes loneliness remains unarguable even in the presence of its ability to connect people who are far away in one platform, to communicate efficiently. This is because studies have indicated that the distant communication is even more harmful than when the parties could not have been communication whatsoever. One of the impacts is that one quickly tends to develop emotions more regularly whenever they are speaking to their friends and family members. The feelings may consist of the general experiences that happened many years ago, or sometimes back. These emotions and feelings make them lonely, as they begin to admire those times. Also, the fact that they miss these people do not increase the chances of meeting them; therefore, it is considered an illusion since. Eventually, they can not respond to see one another or implement whatever they could be sharing in social media. In summary, there is no proof to state that Facebook does not promote loneliness; instead, it entirely encourages the opposite.
