Introduction
Collaborative inter-professional team spirit remains a vital aspect of adequate healthcare provisions. Inter-professional teamwork refers to the approaches employed by various healthcare personnel, who have diverse skills, talents, and knowledge to work together to realize a common objective (Dinh et al., 2020). Successful healthcare teams deploy numerous interventions to enhance their group morale in the healthcare sector. Such initiatives may involve encouraging coordination, communication, cooperation, and decision making to accomplish maximum healthcare goals.
Besides, such teamwork increases knowledge, documentation, and interpersonal relations. Furthermore, inter-professional healthcare teamwork supports patient-centered care and improves patient contentment (Bentley et al., 2018). The purpose of this paper entails examining factors that affect inter-professional cooperation and a recommendation about inter-professional healthcare teams.
Description of the Article on Inter-Professional Comprehensive Healthcare
The research discusses on information obtained from a five-year study project that assessed the success of comprehensive primary healthcare (CPHC) in indigenous societies. The finding illustrated the benefits and limitations of inter-professional teamwork (Dinh et al., 2020). From the research carried out by Bentley, Freeman, Baum, and Javanparast, this paper can provide factors that encouraged or hindered healthcare groups working inter-professionally (Bentley et al., 2018). Healthcare inter-professionalism entails group meetings, client referrals to other healthcare personnel as deemed necessary, modes of communication within the working environment, case conferencing, and healthcare delivery teams.
The researchers carried a survey on healthcare workers practicing in an Australian primary healthcare facility offering services to various clients. Experiences of six groups providing services to six Australian primary healthcare facilities during a period of crucial healthcare reformation in four governmental, one Aboriginal facility controlled by the public, and one non-governmental establishment involved in sexual healthcare issues worked (Bentley et al., 2018). The study reported that several of the employees collaborated with other healthcare professionals in their duty to offer inter-professional services to their clients.
Factors that Affect Inter-Professional Teamwork
The findings also established that correlated factors influenced inter-professional roles during service delivery, such as contextual, administrative, and relational dominions. Besides, lack and denial of financial support, policy shifts that resulted in the transformation of the medical sectors, and reorientation of the healthcare industry in the South Australian region undermined the inter-professional healthcare teamwork outcomes (Bentley et al., 2018). However, the standard, comprehensive primary healthcare culture, and obligation among dedicated employees overcame the negative aspects (Turner, 2019). The transfer of services among central healthcare personnel that operated inter-professionally encouraged better delivery of services; however, it also made blockage to groups working inter-professionally through interruption originating from the effect of restructuring of services.
Recommendation
Notably, policy-makers and managers must consider the possible impacts of policy, strategies, and structural transformations on inter-professional teamwork. Those mandated with decision making must make efforts to reduce unpremeditated negative influences of shifts on the operations of inter-professional groups (Bentley et al., 2018). I hold the view that inter-professional teamwork has considerable benefits to the society and must remain an aspect that requires encouragement across the globe, especially during challenging moments presented by pandemics like Covid-19 that affects and involves everyone’s efforts to fight it and emerge victoriously (Turner, 2019).
Conclusion
Dynamics within teams may originate from classification practices resulting from various groups. Such differential in teams can develop into an identity crisis and risk encouraging discrimination that gets intensified by managerial or framework processes that reward one unit over another. Inter-professional groups operate better if members feel contented through respectful acknowledgment of the values and support of others. Healthcare workers functioning under a system that values the contributions of other personnel within the sector and focuses on cohesion rather than discords, among the supporters of the objective of the team, can enhance cultural and structural aspects of inter-professional teamwork.
