We are living in a social world where interaction is a very vital skill set. One way of sharpening our interactions skills is through attending summer sleep-away camps. Attending a sleep-away camp is a positive event that all children should experience in their lives. Summer sleep-away camp in a child's life that will give him many useful lessons and experiences and also a place where a child can be kept active rather than play video games the whole day. Kids who can attend summer camp are taught specific skills that are not taught anywhere else. Children can learn various activities like the sport of shooting arrows, riding horses, skiing. In addition to that children are educated and gain a sense of independence from others. This is because the children are staying away from their parents for more extended periods than they are used to. Also, this shows them what it feels like to be an adult.
In the camp, children are given different chores to do by the mentors in the summer camp. Being given work to do instill a sense of responsibility in the lives of the children. This is significant because an adult with no sense of responsibility is adversely affected by life circumstances. Life becomes unbearable, and you become a person with no direction. I remember during my time in summer camp I was appointed as the head of group G. we were dived into several groups to participate in the various activities. As the head of the group, it was my responsibility to ensure that all my members know and understand their tasks clearly. This duty helped me to relate to people well because it was my responsibility to know about their welfare and any challenges they encounter. Because of this I became a good people person and was never shy or timid when being around others.
I also gained good managerial skills as the leader of group G. this is because I was used to dealing with different people with different strengths and abilities. This helped me appreciate the weak and healthy in a group because in some circumstance the person you thought of as weak is the one who is knowledgeable than the rest. Another thing that summer camp benefits children are that it helps them increase their self-esteem. We should acknowledge that not all children have the same self-esteem because you may find one kid who is very outgoing and another who is just quiet. Summer camp helps kids who are untroubled by boosting their egos since they are placed in the same areas as their peers thus can get friends and like-minded people. This also helps them step out of their familiar home surrounding with home friends; therefore, you make new pals.
Summer sleep-away camp also gives children the opportunity to experience outdoor life. We have to agree that in this modern world nature and the environment has become forgotten. Children who are connected with nature to grow and develop healthily. Also, nature gives them a mother perspective of life other than that of the house. Summer camp also helps to toughen up children. This is so when the children partake in the various activities offered by the summer camp, and they fail to meet the target, the field allows the children to try the second and even the third time. This motivates the children to defeat their obstacles in life.
Conclusion
In conclusion, the best thing that summer sleep-away camp offers is a place for children to develop their personality or selfhood. In summer camp children interact with kids from different areas with different characters. A mean-tempered kid will find it rough in summer camp because the other kids will not want anything to do with him/her.
