Q.1 In terms of professional roles, which have you demonstrated competency of? Which professional roles do you think you still need to develop? How might you develop these roles? (Consider career-long learning.)
Throughout the course me studying for social work degree, I believe that I have demonstrated competency in is the Mediator role. The role can work on the micro, mezzo, or marc trying to resolve conflict with the outcome. The Mediator provides all parties with an understanding while remaining neutral to all parties involved. This professional role can be difficult, however, as social worker outcome is based on what is right and what lines up to the rules and guidelines. The professional role that I could develop more is a broker. The broker provides resources helping clients get the services that they need. If the right resources can sometimes be difficult if they do not meet the needs of a client. Or the client may not want the resources being offered. It is important as a broker that we listen to the needs and provide them in a timely manner. The social worker has to be patient and willing to work with the client until their needs are met.
Q.2 If you were placed in a social work professional role that wasn't your preference or didn't match with your skills or personality, how might you manage it?
As a social worker, I would want to identify what skills would be the most effective for the situation at hand. Using the generalist intervention model will help me recognize and solve problems on any Professional role level. Depending on the complexity of the situation apply levels of the GIM or I could use a few. Order to proceed in the helping process I would use engagement to communicate to establish connections, parameters the initial structure. In which I and my client will work. Then, I would assess all of the client's needs and concerns by gathering information such as who makes up the client system, what resource they have and what resources may be needed. What supports, and strengths they have and what environmental factors contribute to the client system. After I assess the client's needs I would begin planning going over all the information that I have gathered during the engagement and assessment process.
Q.3 How does the social worker in the scenario use inter-professional collaboration as appropriate to achieve progress towards creating the homeless shelter?
The inter-professional collaboration aims at achieving a common goal among two or more professions who aim at solving complex issues. Collaborations allow participants to achieve more as a group than they would individually. Therein, as a social worker through collaboration with the government, shelters, and community we will be able to provide proper homes for the homeless.
As a social worker, I will use inter-professional collaboration to provide advocacy for the homeless. Inter-professional collaboration provides a bridge between the homeless and the governing bodies or aid facilitators. Being a social worker and having related to the homeless I am able to peach their issues so as to provide them with housing that fits their needs.
I will also use inter-professional collaboration access to funding the project and increase productivity as well as get more work done in a short span. Inter-professional collaboration offers an advantage of working with different bodies to facilitate housing projects for the homeless. Housing is sensitive and needs urgent attention since the people on the streets are vulnerable to crimes and they need the safety that comes from proper housing.
Inter-professional collaboration likewise provides an advantage of cost sharing. Having the major issue as funds to facilitate the project partnering with different well-wishers and the government will enable the raising of funds easily. The collaboration will enable reduce the cost that the government and other bodies are willing to allocate to the project. Unlike, operating as one entity collaboration promotes cost sharing hence making it easy to attain the target.
