Introduction
Communication concerns the passage of information from one person to another via various media. Such media are amongst the writings, the word of mouth, telephone calls, or by the use of signaling gestures (WILKINSON, H. 2015. p 28). In this case, the parties will be able to understand one another and have their messages properly relayed in the event there are no communication barriers. The sender of the message will be relieved having passed the message across while the respondent will have played his/her part by giving the correct feedback to the sender of the message. Thus, there is the need of employment of proper communication techniques that breeds mutual understanding amongst the communicating members, aside from fostering developments in the proper implementation of the communicated orders (Hargie, O., 2016. p52). There are communication experiences from where we can reflect on their quality as well as learn from them for future improvements in such areas. For my case, there have been a number of communication experiences from where I can reflect and learn something for future improvements while communicating. One of them involves a situation where I was trying to pass the message across to my farther. Here, there was a crisis in the family and as a first born, took great part in the solution. My father was far away, working as a military pilot. In the phone call, I was informing him of the crisis where the electricity had developed a hitch and set ablaze the barn. On the other end, the communication had gotten him in a busy situation of ferrying the military supplies to the soldiers trying to subdue the terrorists along the western coast of the military base he was situated. I had to explain everything quite clearly for him to get the full picture of the events from me, the eyewitness. I did my part, and along the way, he had comported himself by avoiding distractions and consequently found the gist of the happenings.
The communication between my father and I occurred quite well as he was able to comprehend what I was passing across, which I did in total respect to the proper communication theory and ethics. The communication theory of communication process was duly followed, hence bringing out the best and successful communication. The communication process involves some factors that make communication complete, thus fostering proper communication. Such factors are the sender, the medium, message, receiver, and feedback. In this case, I was the sender of the messages involving the obnoxious happenings of the electricity hitch which burnt the barn and the contents inside it. The message was sent through the phone call medium, and the receiver of the sent message was my father in his line of duty as an air force pilot. He was then able to be getting the messages and concocting the feedbacks of every sent message, sometimes accumulating the feedbacks of more than one sent a message and sending them to me via the phone call medium. The loop of communication was thus complete, because of the efficient mutual understanding between my father and me, and he was thus able to get the full knowledge of the happenings.
The experience where I communicated with my father and effectively passed the messages across taught me a lot of things. It was beneficial to me in various dimensions. First, I was able to learn and appreciate the importance of using simple language in the presentation of the communicated message. I used simple terms in explaining the occurrences of the incident, and my father was able to understand the full episode quite well. Also, respect for one's space during conversation is essential. Here, I could listen as he spoke and he could also listen keenly as I passed my message s to him, facilitating excellent communication. I also learned that it is okay to avoid distractions while communicating for absolute mutual comprehension. Since he was on the line of duty as communication was being passed to him, he was able to seek a tranquil environment that could enable effective communication without such distractions as noises. The experience was also beneficial in the sense that the communication theory of communication process proved a working mechanism in the communication activities. There was a reliable medium, the phone call, which was effective in communication. I was the sender, and my father was the receiver, as we interchanged messages in between.
Conclusion
In communications in the next periods, some things ought to be done for more effective communication than the one in the case incident above. It involves the inclusion of the correct timing mechanism in the relay o information to the receiver (Sybis, M., Wesolowski, K., Jayasinghe, K., et al. 2016. P42). He will be able to receive the message more comported hence enhancing the efficiency of the communication process. It will be unlike in the case incident where the receiver was in the line of duty, with the likelihood of experiencing potential distraction during the communication process. Also, I will be using only the language understood by the receiver for effective message delivery.
