"On the Jewish question" is the work of Karl Marx that was written in 1843. This was an attempt in the development of the materialistic conception of history. This work of Marx is used to criticize two studies that have been made by Bruno Bauer in an effort of the jews in the achievement of political freedom in Prussia. Baurer claims that Jews can only attain deliverance politically through renouncing specific sacred realization as liberation in politics necessitates a material nationally and assumes that it does not lave any space for identities which are social like religion. He adds that true freedom politically needs religion to be abolished. This paper will address the Marxism -on the Jewish question.
Marx used the Bauers essay for an investigation of substantial privileges.H e claims that Bauer's postulation is mistaken when he argues that "secular state" religion usually play no critical role in the interactive life and the example he Bauer uses that of the extensiveness of belief had no religion in the state a case of the United States, unlike Prussia. According to Marx, material ownership is not in opposition to faith rather its acceptance (Marx, 1843). Removing qualification for citizens to acquire property does not mean religion has been abolishing, but it is an introduction of regarding people in perception from them.
Marx concludes that while personalities are governmentally and morally permitted in a natural condition, but are still tied to substantial restrictions on freedom of discrimination of the economy. The assumption forms a foundation of his capitalism critique. According to Marx, Bauer does not make a distinction between political freedom and human liberation. Political freedom does not require Jews to abandon their religion.
Marx disputes Bauer religious investigation of Judaism and the interrelation it has to Christianity. Bauer makes a claim that rejecting religion will be hard for the Jews due to Judaism which is a primitive development stage of Christianity.thus for the Christians to have freedom through abandoning the faith they will have to overcome on the level while the jews will have to conquer two stages (Bauer, 1843). Marx responds to this argument by saying that Jewish do not need to have an attachment to the importance it has in the analysis of Bauer.
Marx claims that the contemporary commercialized sphere is the conquest of Judaism, a religion that is pseudo where the money is their god. According to Deutscher, Marx's "idea of socialism and the classless and stateless society" expressed in the essay is as universal as Spinoza's ethics and God (Isaac Deutscher, 1959). The Jewish question makes itself unique according to the state in which the Jews live in. In Germany, the subject of the Jewish is purely theological since there is no political state. The Jew gets himself in religious opposition towards the land which the foundation is proclaimed as Christianity. While France has a lawful state; hence the Jewish question is an issue of constitutionalism, the incompleteness of administrative liberation.
In North America, the state is developed fully, and their is the adoption of attitude in politics, where the Jewish question is not on theology but secular subject. Having this aspect in mind Marx moves away from the perspective of Bauer, suggests that the issue of the Jewish is not theological.
Marx claims that as the genuinely universal class, the liberation of the proletariat was necessarily universal human emancipation for blacks, women and oppressed nationalities (Kovel, 1983). Marx advocates that all religions be abolished not only that of Judaism is a man is looking for liberation. Marx suggests that Bauer is wrong when assuming that jews can just be liberated politically when they free themselves from Judaism.since liberation politically is not human liberation.
According to Bauer when a jew acquires civil rights, this is not an entitlement to peoples' rights which is not naturally or given, but it is established through culture. The privilege of faith must be sacrificed for man to attain rights. Marx draws consideration to the opportunity of teaching for the consequence of the liberty of man.
Marx addresses security and equality as man's rights. There is no political importance concerning equality since it the right to freedom.he also focuses on safety, he intends to point out liberty, justice, and security never go beyond the selfish man that is a member of society. Bauer believes that human rights can never be attained by a member of the Jews who do not forsake Judaism. Marx suggests that these rights can be achieved without renouncement. A person may be confused about whether these rights are considered to be emancipatory or not. Marx indicates that reasons are not.
Karl Marx approaches the Jewish question from a different perspective to that of Bauer by claiming that the liberation of the Jew is freedom of human beings from Judaism.this makes the work of Marx on Jewish question to be anti-Semitic. All the things that people have developed hatred towards them about the Jew have been made, and essential to man's rights gives room for Marx's suggestion that social liberation of the Jew is freedom to the society from Judaism.
