List three classes of drugs affecting the Hematopoietic System. List the mechanism of action for each class of drug
Some of the three classes of drugs that are impacting the hematopoietic system include antiplatelets, anticoagulants, and the thrombolytic. Antiplatelets, mechanism inhibit the cyclooxygenase by making sure that the glycoprotein 11b/111a receptor. On the other hand, it also prevents the general binding of fibrinogen to the activated plates and prevents cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase. On the other hand, anticoagulant mechanism ant clotting factors are released by preventing thrombin the development of thrombin the development of blood coagulation factor precursors. According to Zabczyk & Undas,(2017), the production of thrombolytic mechanism led to the dissolving of plasminogen clots by the creation of a product identified as plasmin.
Choose one medication from the three classes and discuss what disorder the drug is used to treat?
From the three classes, the medication of discussion is the Warfarin which is also identified as Coumadin. It is used in the treatment of various blood clots such as clots in the arteries, lungs, and veins. In some of the procedures such as hip replacement, Coumadin is used in the preventing of blood clots after the process of medication. Notably, Coumadin also helps in decreasing the risk of heart attack and stroke by preventing the general development of blood clots and creating a limitation to stress that has been subjected to the arteries and veins.
How often the medication is given?
The Coumadin dosage should be administered at least 5mg to 2.5 mg for the patient who is weighing less than fifty kilograms, however for patients who are more than 75kg; there exist the higher risk of issues like bleeding. When someone has skipped the dosage, they can be given the chance of taking another dosage. However, Coumadin should be taken on a daily basis at the same time so as to keep the sick in the therapeutic range.
What labs should get monitored while the patient is taking this medication?
Prothrombin time and international normalized ratio are the major labs that should be monitored while taking Coumadin. Basically, the therapeutic range for pulmonary embolism therapeutic range 2.0-3.0, deep vein thrombosis 2-3.0 INR, Atrial fibrillation therapeutic range 2.3-3.0 and the mechanical valve therapeutic range 2.0-3.5
