Introduction
Immigration has been a serious topic of debate in recent years with certain leaders calling for stricter policies to tame the huge influx of foreigners. Debate on this issue has been ongoing even though the immigrants have brought with them good and bad habits. One of the biggest reasons raised by these leaders is that the immigrates are taking away the American jobs and some are engaged in illegal activities that could pose a danger to the American citizens. Immigrating to America was brought about by the American dream which promised the immigrants better lives in the form of education and welfare. The public opinion, however, has been divided on this issue with many of these views changing in the past three decades. Attitudes have changed based on the perceived actions of immigrants in the country as well as their contribution to the nation (Timmons, 2018).
Immigrants in the past viewed immigrants based on the interviews as people who created jobs consumed goods and contributed towards the development of the united states economy. As they stay in the country for the coming years, their contribution to the nation will be immense. In the interview that I undertook that sought to answer the various question about immigrants' various insights and opinions were shared. In one question which I asked about the contribution of the immigrant's majority of the agreed that most of these people agreed that indeed they strengthen the country through their talents. According to these majority members, immigrants can easily accomplish certain jobs that natives find it difficult to accomplish and, in that sense, contribute towards strengthening the nation. However, they insisted on the immigrant to make sure that they are formally recognized by the authorities and avoid residing illegally without proper documentation. Getting documented was the biggest call by the majority of the supporters of immigrants to avoid issues with the authorities.
30% of the public in my interview; however, believe the immigrants are a big problem in the country for many reasons. According to these minority, the immigrant takes away their jobs and result in congestion in houses as well as increase the health costs of the nation.
Further, they insist that many of the immigrants today came to the country illegally and as such do not contribute to the nation as other taxpayers. Many of the illegal agreements also based on the responses from the interview are extremely, and the majority of theme depend on food stamps thus increasing the national budget. Illegal immigrants also engage in criminal activities and tracing them within the different parts of the nation is quite cumbersome as nobody knows anything about their activities. Aside from some of the individuals who are against the influx of immigrants agreed that certain foreigners were bringing with them certain cultures which they found to be a threat to the American culture. They also claimed that the increased number of illegal immigrants would result in high cost when it comes to detention and deportation when the immigration authorities arrest them.
Another significant element that shaped the responses in the interview was the age of the interviewees. Many of the millennials mostly below thirty years had no problem with the immigrants coming to America as they believed they all serve an important purpose in the nation. The millennials who agreed that immigrants bring a positive impact to the nation were around 75% of the interviewees. The baby boomers on the other hand mostly over 47 years although the majority expressed good views about the immigrants they were not as high as the young adults.
The skyrocketing population of immigrant has been a cause of concern with the majority being immigrant who entered legally but has overstayed. According to American citizens, these people are taking advantage of American immigration systems. However, based on the interviews conducted it is the evident majority of the people feel that these immigrants whoa re mostly illegal are genuinely fleeing violence in their countries and the persecution they have faced. On this question, 30% also think that these immigrants are using these asylum excuses as mean to be accepted into the united states of America.
The high population of illegal immigrants has resulted in an increased number of people engaging in work without paying taxes. Taxes are something that all citizens must contribute to for the development of the nation. Immigrants who are in the United States illegally can survive because of being able to secure employment without presenting valid documents. Many of these jobs, however, pay far less the minimum wages, and as a result, they exploit these immigrants. The question has been asked on whether these companies which employ immigrants must report cases of workers without documents or not. According to 60% of the interviewees, the government should take firm action on such companies as they make it easy for immigrants to continue surviving in this nation. 40% of those interviewed however believed it is not the duty of these companies to look out for who is legal or an illegal immigrant. While we understand it is not their duty to monitor immigrants, I believe it is ethical for any business to conduct its operation with people they know so that in case of anything they can easily identify them and put them to the task.
In the processing of staying underground, these illegal immigrants have given birth to children who are growing up thinking they are Americans. Without proper documentation, there is a debate on whether these children should be granted legal status or deported back with their parents. According to the majority I interviewed they agreed that children are innocent; this is now their home by birth. 60% agreed that these kids be given legal status while 40% think otherwise on this particular issue. This would mean separation from their parents, and many of them would feel traumatized as a result. Doing this has evoked emotions of many who believe it is justified to take away kids from their parents enforce immigration policy. We all know the importance of a parent in a child's life, and thus we must rethink on a working strategy to counter the problem of immigration.
Conclusion
Based on the responses provided in the interviews it is evident that the issue of immigration is not as worrying as it is portrayed in the media. However, there are pertinent issues regarding the presence of illegal immigrants that need to be addressed so that people can live in harmony with these foreigners. The thing that needs to be addressed includes documentation and the control of the type of immigrants that get permitted to work in the country. Only skilled workers that are needed should be allowed and not anyone should allowed to come to the country (Randolph, 2018) .Aside from that, the government must be relentless in keeping the country free of undocumented people by coming with policies that make it difficult for such people to reside in the country.
