Introduction
Children are raised in different parenting styles. Quality parenting differs from one parent to another and nurtures children's behaviors and developments (Kuppens, Sofie &Ceulemans,2019). Parents nurture their children differently worldwide. Some follow religious rules, custom norms, and others go with technological developments. There are benefits and disadvantages for both parental control and full freedom. A child raised under parental control ends up more advantaged compared to the one under maximum freedom. Parental control and complete freedom differ. Parenting style determines children's behaviors and results.
Parental Care
Children learn and copy skills from their parents. Those raised under parental care are disciplined compared to those raised without parental supervision. Parents teach and command virtue to their children. The children's personalities are a result of the experiences they go through and their upbringing. Authoritarian parents are strict and command respect and obedience from their children. Disobedience and mistakes are punishable harshly, and immediately; children learn to be disciplined and respective. They develop good virtues through their parents' guidance. Neglected children lack parental guardians on behaviors. They are only provided basic needs by their parents and sometimes are left out to hustle themselves (GarcÃa, Oscar, et al. 2018). Their parents are not concerned about their day to day lives. Neglectful parenting allows the children to do all they want without limits and learn vices from their peers. They tend to misbehave and engage in harmful behaviors, for no one to control them.
Children under parental control tend to have parental warmth, care, love, concern, interest, and close communication with their parents. Children with full freedom go with no one to correct them when they are wrong and no one to take care of them when they are in trouble. They lack parental warmth. They face touch situations both make small and big mistakes with no one to guide them. They even risk their lives in town, trying to snatch people's properties. Their lives get traumatized and challenged.
Open Discussion
Encouraging open discussion and idea-sharing between a child and his parent nurtures the child-parent relationship. Children with parental guardians and control tend to have higher self-esteem compared to those without parental supervision. Parents give rules to their children then explain them to their children. Children internalize the lessons and sense of right and wrong. When a child does a good thing, he appreciates the parent with love; leads to the growth of the child's self-esteem. Parents understand their children better. They guide and teach them how to understand and accept themselves the way they are. Children brought up in poor parenting and are left to have full freedom to go through various challenges. Low self-esteem is one of the many challenges. These children lack parental guidance. They do not have clear information on what they are expected to do. They learn through their mistakes, and they know them the hard way.
Parental control gives a child a chance to learn and acquire problem-solving skills by observing, copying, and learning through their parents. Parents act as teachers to their children. Male children learn from the father the way of doing things, for example, providing. Females learn from their mothers the roles of a woman at home and in society at large. Full freedom child is always alone and sometimes with his peers. He lacks the skills and knowledge to face problems for his parents are still absent from him; it causes them stress and sometimes gets depressed when they face challenges. These might lead to suicide.
Parent Figure
Every child needs a parent figure in his life. Children with parental control are focused and competitive, even in academics. They have goals set for them to achieve due to parental follow up and guidance on their performance and career choice. They are appreciated when they perform well. This gives them the morale to work extra hard in their academics. Children whose parents are neglectful are less competent than their peers. They have poor self-regulators and child parent relationship is virtually none existent (Cerezo, Fuensanta, et al.,2018). They have poor and often absent-minded in class. This is as a result of over-thinking and lack of parental love and warmth in their lives. They feel lonely and deserted. Some of them are likely to drop out of school earlier and get involved in early marriages, drugs abuses, and theft. They are always confused and not sure what they are expected to do.
Conclusion
In conclusion, parents should take their responsibilities in upbringing and guiding their children. Children need love, care, warmth, affection, and communication from their parents. Parents should not be busy with their children. Children need to give time and space to interact with parents, copy and learn from their parents. Good parenting results in good behavior from the children. Children should not be left alone to guide themselves for they suffer a lot since they are naïve and young to decide for themselves.
