Randall Collins, a professor in sociology at the University of Pennsylvania in his book, he has given some controversies concerning the higher education in America. He claims that when the American education system was expanded, social mobility did not increase. Instead, a cycle of credential inflammation was created.
Collins has been able to show how the credential inflation has hindered very many education potentials of upward mobility. The rise in production of credentials and job requirements has influenced the rising cost of education, misleading grade job promises as a result of undergraduate education.

The author has been able to take into account three parts where he first discusses the issue of children becoming social beings and the influence they have upon their families, the mass media and the peer group. The second part he discusses the sociology in schooling, he identifies the different levels of schools and the interaction it has to the children. The last part is where he looks at the relationship between education and social institutions. A balance is identified between the preservation of social stability and the introduction of change.

This book has brought together various aspects based on the reports from research conducted on the different experiences in schools. In the various chapters of the authors have brought out the application of sociology in education and how it relates to the pupils and teachers in general. They have shown the different field of investigation using theoretical developments and the directions to be taken. It is hence contributing significantly on the tension between sociology and education.
Wexler, P. (2017). Social analysis of education: After the new sociology (Vol. 57). Routledge.
Wexler, in his book Social Analysis of education, he has been able to give an ideological critique in the relationship between culture and sociology. It is evident that the author aimed at transforming a different understanding of the social character and the history of knowledge. The book has been able to identify the history of the new sociology of education and the social conflicts it had in the early times. It continues to focus on the critical analysis that has not yet been identified by the new sociology of education.
Bowe, R., Ball, S. J., & Gold, A. (2017). Reforming education and changing schools: Case studies in policy sociology (Vol. 10). Routledge.
This book has taken into account the effects of the Education Reform Act in England and Wales. Basing their evidence from schools which were collected for three years of the Acts implementation, they looked at changes that have been achieved by the local management in schools. The influence that it has had on the market of schools, on the introduction of the new curriculum and the places that require a special provision in the modern education scene.

This book has illustrated a summary of the findings from studies conducted on the sociology of education in Sub-Saharan Africa. The authors have focused on education and social inequality, the sociology of the school, the teacher and the curriculum and education and development.
